Stars and nenuphars

Fantasy Gacha Festival (7)

When I started waking up in Second Life again last month, I stumbled across something called the Fantasy Gacha Festival. "This sounds interesting," I thought. "Fantasy. I like that genre." So I went, not really expecting anything. When I landed in the pretty castle courtyard surrounded by market stalls, I realized swiftly that I was in deep trouble.

"This…is all the stuff I like best in Second Life," I thought to myself sadly. Then I began to spend all my L. Seriously -- it was my introduction to Aisling horns, and Forge items, and other amazing designers that make quality roleplay gear. Do you like chains that dangle around your torso? This is the place. Wings? Here. Skins that are fabulous colors with crazy makeup? Yes.

So when this round began, I made sure I arrived for the blogger preview. It did not disappoint. In fact, I bought ALL THE THINGS. I'm overjoyed to show you this outfit, full of amazing stuff. And I'm also overjoyed to give you a look at the lovely sim.

Find out more about this lovely event here.   You'll probably find me there hunting Rares…

All the way down

Turtles (1)

We sit in our cubes conversing with each other about existential things. She tells me that she wants to be a teacher again, I mention that it's like performing all day long. Both of us ponder that at least we'd be constantly impacting reality instead of sitting like imperfect cogs in our slightly rusty machine. It's hard to remember that life is meaningful when our cell is three beige walls and our computer is our window to the world.

It's more fun to create. That's what I long to do today, make little worlds for my virtual toys. A little inlet, perhaps, lined with reeds and palms and some sand. Turtles would like it there. They could swim to a far-off rock, warmed in the evening light. Yes, I think I'll do this. I think I'll watch turtles play in the sun...

Color resists paraphrase

Airedine lounging at her pool

Ever since I stopped blogging here, I admit that I never actually stopped blogging.  Cajsa let me linger on at It's Only Fashion, and every now and again I'd log into SL and realize that I had something interesting to say. For a few years I became a sporadic blogger, much different than when I gave myself the goal of posting once a day, every day, in this blog. It felt like a vacation, taking off the responsibilities that come with doing justice to people's creations, and only really posting when and what I wanted.

...But sometimes the constant flow and pressure is inspirational. I love it when designers decide that I'm worthy of their creations, and I love the pressure of adequately representing a good event full of interesting things. I'm excited about the next few months, when this blog will be plunging into a deep Autumnal gloom. The kindly people who make dark and dangerous things remembered me, and I've been slowly donning the trappings of a fully operational blog again.

Things are different than they were when I began, obviously!  It's fascinating to realize that event items are now distributed through groups rather than by each designer (remember the day?). How neat and tidy that is! I also like the application process. It makes the commitment more real, something to be achieved and lived up to rather than "Here's the same old bunch of folks writing about the same stuff."

The real reason for this blog also persists, though, and it's embodied here: it's always been about other people, people who are not me. That's always been the most fun for me to photo.  Gathered here are a few pictures from the past month of people that I've hung out with, taken on the sly like the avatar paparazzi that I am.  Enjoy! (And you'll be next...)

Pale sot of the Maldive sea

Feet and a light projector

I wandered far yesterday.  I donned a new pair of feet, and they compelled me to find somewhere to go.  I found a pretty sim full of pale white trees and a lurid sky… and completely forgot to record where I'd been.  Instead I floated in circles and watched the sky drip into the sea.

I have a pretty ring on my brand-new hand too, it's by Ellabella, and I'm showing it off especially below because it's lovely work. (And look at the manlycure!)  I hope your travels this week are just as peaceful and strange.

I reworked this one a bit.

I forgot.

Defeated among these sights

Nomine homage (2)

September is ending, and I realized that I don't have long to go to Nomine and poke around. The in-world shop will be open through October, and Munchflower will create her usual outstanding limited edition Halloween avatars (last year's is above) as a swan song.  Her Marketplace shop will remain open through the end of the year.

In a fit of nostalgia, I poked through the (strangely underpopulated) Nomine Flickr group and found some of my photos from the past. I hope they speak for me of my sadness that one of the creative bastions of Second Life is fading away.

But as always, I await this year's Halloween avatars.
