I've had a convergence of family here these past few days. My father-in-law was in town, and we had a few interesting conversations about family and life and stuff. I think I'm valuing family more and more now that I have a kid -- something that my father-in-law said was, "My relationship with your husband changed after you two had Alba. I think he began to feel my pain."

That was apropos of nothing, as usual, except whatever's on my mind. Please note two things: new male skin from Ugly Duck named Uriel, beautifully drawn as always, deep on the detail and with a variety of body hair options. And a new necklace from Stash. If you zoom in, you can see all the intricate work on the metal, very well-done (and masculine enough for Acha here. Which, ok, is a low bar.) (SLURL to Ugly Duck) (SLURL to Stash)

Guest-styled by Alba

My daughter dressed me in this outfit today. I love how connected she is to her femininity. It makes me wonder how she came to this love -- what part of her nature or nurture gives her the deep and profound desire to be swathed in pink? I've never been a pink kind of girl. I've always had an affinity for black. And I never demanded the sorts of things that my kid wants, like Barbies and such. In fact, I remember wrinkling my nose at them. Ew, Barbies! …And here I am in SL playing with a virtual Barbie, right?

I love this dress from G*Field; It was a good call, Alba. I snapped the shot outside of Clawtooth while waiting for Bubbles' 50L Friday item to rez. I don't think it's out yet -- Bubbles! Where's my awesome hair! :D

Put a lid on it

I realized that I'm never comfortable being out-and-out sexy with my female avatar. Male avatar has zero problems rocking out with his prim attachments out, but the female avatar is modest and demure and more cute than sexy. I don't know why this is the case. Perhaps because my real life self is the same? Maybe it's easier to imagine sexuality as a different gender because I prefer to keep my own gender modest online? Be that as it may, an hour of heckling from a friend never really got me into sexy thigh-highs.

Ingenue's wonderful corset and panties is just modest enough to be sexy, and I wore it with this fabulously jarring set of long-dead eyes from Ugly Duck to mitigate any possible overt sexuality. The skin is one of the Ugly Duck gatcha skins -- so afforable and well-made! Please also note the beautiful necklace from *Amaranthus* -- if you click it, it opens to reveal a note.

I did not coin the term mangarden, but...

Schadenfreude's new line of skins is called the Alopex, or arctic fox. How to put this… In Allegory's notecard regarding the skin she refers to a conversation that we had in the Rookery one night. I was randomly complaining about how silly prim shlongs look against one's bare pubic bone, especially if the tint is slightly wrong. Apparently due to this Allegory made some of her skins with man-fur… It's perfect for nestling one's Very Special Attachment. Thank you, Alle.

In the interest of sparing the internets a nice big view of my nethers, I'll just point you there. [ Click for the full monty. ]

We don't need another hero

Doc Eldritch has such a distinctive look to his outfits, elegance married to a worn Beyond Thunderdome element. I always feel ready for some time in the Wastelands in his stuff, especially when I took off my shirt and saw the distressed patches on the fabric. I love the sheen of his leather jackets and how he does details, like the flare of the cuff. No need for a prim collar, even! I'm also wearing new Mer-elf ears from Schadenfreude, scalloped around the edges and embedded with a tunnel and rings. I'd love to have these ears in real life. Maybe mer-elf ears hear the sea on a distant shore, eh? On my head I'm continuing my love affair with female hairdos for my boy avvie. This one is's Marie. I just noticed that my avvie isn't wearing any green today. Feel free to give me a pinch. ;)

Vo Pralou of Heroin Ghic

The other day, Vitamen Hax handed me a folder of man-tights, or "meggings" as Vo calls 'em. Vitamen said, "This is popular in Japan right now. You can wear them under shorts." If you peek up under the shorts, though, you find a sexy little patch of crotch shading -- just so that nobody mistakes your boy bits for girl bits. Vo has a demure oversized shirt on over his meggings, and is camping it up today with a little mouse headband. His style is always fresh and sexy, and his interpretation of the meggings is definitely in keeping with the Japanese aesthetic. (SLURL to Vitamen)

And here is my crotch so that you can see the shading. Lol.

The long journey out of the self

I stared at my face the other day and had the depressing thought that I wasn't going to ever look any cuter; this is it. At almost 37, my real-life skin is going to give way into a thousand mushy lines. I'm trying to embrace it, because it's mitigated by the knowledge that I'm wearing my body better. My real life puppet is tough to fit, but I'm learning a trick or two about how to wear it. In SL, how do we express age? I think we get the joy of wearing our avatar with aplomb with none of the accompanying wrinkles.

I've been listening to too much Honeycut and dressing my avatar up in warm browns. This new dress is by Elate!, the Kaia dress in chocolate, and I'm wearing it over Plastik's Fierii legging. All ready for Spring in Florida… (SLURL to Elate!, SLURL to Plastik) Oh, the skin is from the new batch of gatcha skins (super cheap!) by Ugly Duck. I love the cheeky skin tone and makeup on this one. "Clay" indeed. (SLURL to Ugly Duck)

Minding my own biziouness

hyasynth made a dress named after an awesome muse, Mourna Biziou. Mourna's take on the outfit is over here, and she looks so very elegant in it! The reason why this outfit is named Mourna is obvious to me, however: the woman usually has half her arse hanging out. :D (*runs from Mourna and hya...*) All joking aside, this dress really does capture the gypsy fae quality that typifies Mourna's dressing aesthetic. The silk is demure, cut low on the hip, but flashing a lovely expanse of thigh and the elegant curve of a back. (Find it at ~silentsparrow~)

For the SL dead

I just finished reading Robert Lowell's poem For the Union Dead. It's on a plaque in the middle of Boston Common, which is where I saw it first (I used to live near Boston Common, up underneath the state house in a tenement building full of rats and drafts). The poem was about the demise of the aquarium, and the erection of a parking lot in its place. I think the poem can be summed up by a lyric from someone else, they paved paradise and put in a parking lot -- but when Lowell was writing, the cars had huge fins and ate gas like the world had no shortage. It was also about the statues in Boston Common, the ones of the first black regiment, and about how easy it is to die. I was pondering this point in reference to Second Life. SL is the perfect place to stage a death and then be around for the funeral. Try out a life, dislike it, shoot it, start anew…

An old coworker of mine died last week. Speculation upon the causes of death were various, but knowing of her life, I think that it felt a bit tattered and frayed. It sucks that there isn't a reset button, an alt with all your best (no copy) (no mod) (trans) items that you can shunt over, a fresh start in a new sim… This post wasn't meant to be a memorial but a meditation. Perhaps Second Life frees us to live and die as we choose, a place to practice safely for the game with no reset.

This outfit is by *katat0nik*, and the hair by !lamb, a group gift. Someone shoved my avvie firmly into rockabilly today, eh?
