Wet like a manatee

Today we went to SeaWorld. I went with my family, including my daughter Alba (who is in my lap with her new polar bear, which she is calling Panda for no apparent reason). It was exhausting and fun (alba) (she wrote her name herself that time), and we saw lots of big swimmy mammals. I loved the walruses especially -- damn, they're huge. I mean, as big as beluga whales, but with whiskers!

I'm wearing a dress from Neferia Abel named the Galine. She's putting out a wedding line for Ivalde and handed me two fluffy white dresses, then said, "But you'd prefer this one, eh?" ... She's right, I love the darkness of this. I feel like Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice, especially with the veil. "You're the dark woman of mystery," she chuckled, so I had to wear this with something BRIGHT to make up for that. :D The dress comes with many skirts (long system, short system, two prim skirts), but I really love the detail and sleekness of the short system skirt paired with the corseted top. Rrow! (SLURL to Ivalde and L'Abel)

Why yes, I'm trekking around on the Starlust Motel Panty Raid. My RL self is off to SeaWorld today while my SL self lounges in lingerie. Hm. At least one of us won't get sunburnt... I'm in the offerings from Schadenfreude (black and white corset), ~silentsparrow~ (pink panty set) and Lazy Places today -- the Lazy Places one includes the hair and this cuuuute pose. Banzai, everyone!

Purring tiger, napping dragon

I've had a visitor in town for the past few days, and it's been hard to concentrate on Second Life when that other life is so busy. Despite this, there have been so many pretty outfits emerging that it's impossible not to sneak away for ten minutes and photo them. Blue Blood came out with the Bandit outfit, which reminds me of Chinese epic movies. It has a lot of the prim attachments that Ghanima is known for, and they're getting more refined every day. (SLURL to Blue Blood)

While my real life self heads off to various sights around Orlando, my avatar is going to scale some roofs with the magic of kung-fu and ropework.

-- Whoa! I just realized that I'm almost at 1000 posts on my blog. I should do something special for post 1000, but what? Hrm...

Berry and her booty

Strawberry Singh ♥

I decided to do Second Life a favor and photograph Strawberry Singh in swimwear. Then, when she was posing in my photo globe, I squinted at her... "Um. ...This is a weird question, but... Is your butt smaller than normal? Usually when I think of you, I think of like, amazing levels of booty."

Berry laughed and looked at her av. "Oh right, I made her bottom smaller to wear a system skirt. I can put it back if you like..." But I kind of like the look she has here. Berry said she doesn't normally do a more gothic look, so I think a streamlined Berry adds to the effect. Clearly all the cigarettes and late-night DJ gigs by Mourna have been hardening her up... *giggle*

The swimwear in question is one of the new Helena set by ~silentsparrow~ (SLURL here)

Of cloudless climes

I can't seem to take off these Plastik skins. It hadn't occurred to me that there's a depth of detail available on darker skins that isn't on lighter skins, but the Plastik stuff has definitely got me pondering. The CinnamonRoll tone has a glow that makes me want to spray a sheen of sweat on my avatar, in a good way. Maybe she just came out of yoga class (like I did yesterday)?

I'm in Rebel Hope's new Kate gown. The detail on the bodice is excellent, and if this is a non-traditional wedding dress (like the one's she's known for), it almost makes me want to renew my partnership vows with a proper ceremony this time. I love the sexy way the neckline drops to cup the boobs, and the flash of tummy above the long, full skirt. Oy, another full day today. Off I go...

Her aspect and her eyes

*katat0nik* just came out with a limited edition white version of her Bloody Alice dress. It's stunning -- I love the black and white illustrations on the hem, and the way the blood splashes across it. If you're a fan of white dresses like me, you'll want this to pull into its various parts and use under and over and with other outfits... It's available only this month at Total Betty's fairy tale event: (SLURL here)

I'm continuing my fascination with dark skins by Plastik (such amazing shading and makeup), and Sari's dreadlocks. Real-life me wishes I could pull off dreads! Sadly, I'd need to be in a much less traditional field than teaching...

The eyes are from the Skipping Stones hunt going on this month! I did it yesterday, lapping the race with SaraTheRed, December and Olivia. I did a spit-take when I saw Olivia's group tag: Will f*** for brains. Apparently it's a Zombie-lover's group. Soon I was sporting the tag as well. *cough* But about the hunt. It has a ton of lovely items aside from these Kunstkammer eyes, and you can find out more about it here.

Weird story about this post. While I was photoshopping, a guy behind me at the cafe where I'm working peeked over my shoulder. "What are you doing? Is that your own art?" He asked, looking at the textures.

"Oh heck no," I said, and then realized how freaking difficult it is to describe what I'm doing. "See, there's this virtual world called Second Life. I play a fashion writer and photographer. These photos are of my avatar, and it's for my fashion blog..." Etc. Etc. Good God, it sounded weird. I'm not sure even now that he gets it, that I didn't actually do anything but photograph the avatar and fiddle with photoshop brushes. "I didn't draw or scan this. I didn't even make the clothes, skin or hair," I said sheepishly. "I'm not an artist at all."

However, it was nice to have someone see what is essentially my creative take on Second Life fashion and think it's artistic (or illustrative). About the clothing. Evie's Closet has made a frock named Jinx -- it comes with two kinds of skirts, big-ass and fairy-esque. As usual, the fabric moves like a watery dream in-world, and my inner demonic nymph loves the flow of it around her skin.

No pictures, just a question.

Hey designers and fellow bloggers (and anyone, really),

How important is naming your outfit? Say you make undies. If you call them "Desdemona Panties" (or something), would that give them a different feel from naming them "Plain White Panty #15" ?

My ponder is that names help us create context for designers' ideas. Like, if a plain black dress was named "Lolita in Black," I think I'd probably wear and accessorize it differently from a plain black dress named "Sleek 'n' sassy". Or perhaps I'm wrong...

What do you think? How important is an outfit's name?

Records and shlongs

Last night I sent Winter a picture of myself in this outfit. "Am I nuts or does this work?" I asked. "It works," he said, so I posted it. Then we went on to discuss detachable penises, which is always a hilarious topic in Second Life. Isn't it a shame that male avatars have to buy something in order to be complete? It's as though the starting male avatar has that much farther to go before they can really walk around comfortably... It would be as though we all had to buy prim boobs! At any rate, for a little while last week I had two detachable penises in my inventory, neither one of them mine. ...Therein lies a story, but I'd better talk about clothing.

I'm wearing a new dress by ~momo~, the vinyl dress in butter. When she sent me the folder I thought, vinyl? Oh my, she really is changing her look! Then I put on the dress and giggled -- little vinyl records are printed across the fabric. The skin is a group gift from []TRAP[] that seemed to go perfectly (in a debauched clown sort of way), and the neat sculpted scarf is new from Plastik. That tender light

I spotted this outfit by Ezura and thought, ooh, bet that would suit Acha. And lo, it does -- she looks like a Steampunk princess in Ezura's Steampunk Venustas outfit. This is the 'erotic' version, and it comes in lots of different outfit options, including a few ruffly tails that I haven't shown. I really like the contrast of the bone-colored jacket and leathery corset, and the little ruffles around the thighs.

I have princesses on my mind because of a small trip I took yesterday to Disney. You know, it was more fun than I thought. I guess seeing it through the eyes of a four-year-old brought it to life for me, even old saws like Small World. It's amazing how nice it can be when a toddler is singing along.

Plastik skins have convinced me to go dark. I love the shading on the Miliana skins, and the makeups too. Aikea really knows how to make this shade gorgeous. Thanks to Fab Renee for pointing out this free hair from Sari's -- I actually bought several styles of dreads while in the shop, nice stuff. The boots are M'z, from the watermelon hunt.
