Always wanted to climb into Severina :D

I've noticed a few things about Mourna's style, posting beside her in the way that I have been. She loves circlets around the brow! She also doesn't own many earrings, because of the elven nature of her avatar -- pointy ears are a must. When choosing hair, we always do a wee ear check to see if it'll work. Also, she owns every Nomine skin made, usually in all the colors. Her boot collection is mighty, and because of it, I think I own more in the way of pumps than she does. She also spends a great deal of time altering clothing to fit her shape, because it's carefully made and very human, with a long torso and substantial hips -- not what people normally design for, but Mourna always makes it work. She's totally got skills!

We're always on the lookout for dresses that we can wear together, and found one when ~silentsparrow~ released a dress in two versions a few days ago, the Severina (named after the gorgeous cobbler behind First Flower). It's lacy, with a tailed bustle or a dolly skirt, and the little elbow laces make me die. We're wearing it with a tidy half-ponytail from Historical Heroines, and the First Flower Hex boots. Mm, car insurance and congee

Aaaaaah, so much to accomplish. My "settle into town" to-do list is great, including a fabulous stop by the DMV and attempting to change our fail-arse AT&T internet into something that works. YOU HEAR ME, AT&T? YOU SUCK. This is alleviated by the awesome Vietnamese food right down the street from me. Today's breakfast was leftover congee (rice soup) with duck, and I'm kinda glowing from the goodness. Rice-based anything is so tasty! /Me totally shares with you guys.

I was halfway through changing into the outfit I'd decided upon yesterday when I realized that this looks kinda cool. My daughter approved of the pink and purple together. The dress is new dolly-style goodness from Sn@tch, worn with Trap's pink koi skin and Calico Ingmann Creations hot-pink-tipped hair. The neck belt is from Zenith; I'll be wearing more from Zenith next time I blog, the shop has shifted focus a bit, and the new accessory line rocks!

We dare wear short shorts!

So much to process. I took Alba to her first fireworks last night. We stood in the middle of a huge mass of people -- all of Orlando together. We were next to a family that had a little girl with Down's Syndrome, and who was trying her best to enjoy things, but was confused by the crowd and staying out late... I had a wash of sorrowful empathy, thinking to myself that I'll never complain about my able-bodied child again. But then, the fireworks -- Alba clung to her father's shoulders and watched as they blossomed across the sky, pink and silver and golden rain.

She liked the pink ones best, of course. She's still asleep, poor child, nestled into the covers of her pink room.

I came home and saw to my delight that /artilleri/ has released new high-waisted shorts! I put them on with two old /artilleri/ gifts and a delicate tattoo from ~silentsparrow~. Now that hair fair is over, I am returning to my Wild O love too, with yet another style from this tiny Japanese shop. Today, just to get to know little kids, I'm actually heading to church! (We're vaguely Unitarian. Wish me luck and remind me not to write yaoi in the church program during the sermon.)

Okay. Let me explain. I'm still trying my best to figure out what to do for the Starlust photo competition, and for some reason it's got me in a creative knot. I plopped myself down on Floyd today and went looking for stuff to wear -- and stumbled upon a cute little freebie building. My tie, jacket, glitch shorts and socks are from the Floyd freebie building... (SLURL to free stuff building here)

The look really came together when I ACCIDENTALLY TOOK THE FLOOR OF MY SKYBOX, AGAIN. I had to put on my flight feather to TP up and replace the floor. My flight feather is conveniently located in this great Le Petit Prince Steampunk Monocular, and I realized that my look was Vintage Nerd. Awesome, I thought, this is what I look like IRL.

Pale, oxblood and sterling

I've been trying my best to enter the Starlust flickr contest (rules here), and so far I haven't been quite satisfied with the results. I entered this one, which I liked -- but sadly it doesn't qualify because the stores moved out of the sim in which I photographed! Darn SL and it's migratory culture, *g*. I'll keep trying.

The outfit that I put together for my next photo was so randomly patriotic that I thought I'd blog it today. It has all things oxblood and dark, dusty blue, and Schadenfreude's amazingly flexible Nekomi hair. I love the ~silentsparrow~ .meat jacket, not least because little cuts of meat dangle from the belt. What's more USA than MEAT, after all? *runs* ...Okay, happy 4th. Alba gets to see her first fireworks tonight!

Bandanna day

Oops, it's bandanna day! I admit that I completely forgot until after I'd photographed myself in this outfit, and then I scrambled for something appropriate. *cough* Moving-house-brain aside, I am happy to honor this day because I've watched several close family members endure chemotherapy (my stepmother, my mother-in-law), and I've seen their grace as they've dealt with the results.

My mother-in-law took to wearing amazing hats -- large and red and lovely. When her hair grew back after treatment she kept the hats as dress-up items for my daughter, turning something sad into something joyful.

The hair I'm sporting is new from Gritty Kitty, called Cain. I adore the v-bangs and the choppy back, and if my hair were remotely straight or bidable I'd have this haircut IRL. The dress is a pretty creation from Vanitas Vesture -- I really like the sleek yet light line and the carefully drawn fabric, a perfect summer dress.

*cough* I'm not looking for an excuse to wear these Miel "Lo" socks again, really. This new clothing item from FlipSide worked perfectly with the socks, however, and is cute to boot, a little camisole dress with a cute-macabre skull-patterned top. FlipSide is an excellent piercing shop, but Flippa is branching out into clothing! Good luck, Flippa. :D [SLURL to FlipSide]

Orlando is interesting. I was at Walmart today and noticed that the demographic of the town is different from Athens. I guess I never realized the amount of money that a college can bring into a town; there's a level of middle-class affluence in Athens that Orlando lacks. It's a real town, and a very non-Caucasian one. Walmart was full of non-Caucasian people, and it felt strange and good (considering that I'm half non-Caucasian too).

I got the job teaching remedial reading at a Community College. The pay is very very bad, but I'll actually be doing good deeds -- I'll consider it community service, even: Ronin teacher helps village in return for rice, lodging. The house is in a state of boxes and half-built furniture, and I'm hiding at mama's place leeching internets.

Bright as a kiwi on a sunny day

Schadenfreude just released an extremely flexible (and bright like Jolly Ranchers) outfit named Electro-Cute. It comes in a bevy of options with a printed tank-top, a dress with a color-changing petticoat, and the ability to mix and match at will between colors. Some of the many options are below! I think I especially love the pink elephant, long a leitmotif in Schadenfreude's work (ever since the onset of the elephant at Ffloyd). The tank comes tucked and untucked and can be worn with the pants of your choice as well as the skirt, and everything comes on every layer possible. (I also noticed that the tank can be layered under the jacket for yet another look.) [Find it here at Schadenfreude!]

Today I've got a job interview. It's for a lecturing position, teaching remedial reading to community college students. I'm all tidied up in the opposite of bright, wishing that I could don this kind of outfit instead...
