Erm. For some reason, all my words fell out of my head tonight because my Thai mama stuffed me with food (do other cultures cook as much?). Tonight's dinner ended with my all-time favorite dessert, kow niew ma muang, which means "sticky rice with mango" -- the sticky rice is laden with sweet, warm coconut milk, and the mango is the perfect tangy topping. Now I'm going to sit around in a torpor while my SL character puts on skimpy clothing...

Today's hair is from Gauze. I went and poked about after seeing this lovely post at Purely-visual (I hope you follow this blog too, it's awesome), and the hair is indeed keen. Half of the dreads change color!

Her name was Baitlyn, she was a cupcake...

Congratulations on the new sim, Katat0nik! Congrats to everyone who has a shop in this dream-laden place, and many thanks for the flotsam and jetsam...

Birds appearing in a dream

One had feathers like a blood-streaked koi,
another a tail of color-coded wires.

One was a blackbird stretching orchid wings,
another a flicker with a wounded head.

deep in the ground, miles from water.
Everything is real and everything isn’t.
Some had names and some didn’t.
Named and nameless shapes of birds.

Grumpy in orange

bliensen + maitai stuff

Well, we've found a place to live! Now to find work.

The Orlando Sentinel (our new local paper) makes me laugh. Front page news is all about Magic Johnson, bumping Obama to page three. I guess the town knows its priorities. I'm shocked that the A1 photo isn't of Mickey Mouse. ...Okay, forgive me... I got little sleep last night due to a child with a cold, so I'm grumpy as hell.

This lovely summer outfit is completely created by Bliensen + MaiTai -- hat with hair to dress to jewelry. It's nice to wake up in the morning and not have to think about what to put on, just drop the whole darned folder!

He was withered, wrinkled, and loathsome

So...I'm moving down to Orlando this summer, and dragging my family with me. We're here for a week trying to get ourselves situated, looking for an apartment and such. This is the first time I've had to be concerned about school districts when moving, and imagine my mortification when I realized that the best school district was, of course, in the bourgeoisie part of town. Hello, Winter Park... It's such a strange change, for me. Previously I'd been drawn to funky parts of town, like lofts on streets packed with bustle and bars and bookstores... Now, I'm stepping into the urbs. (Luckily not the burbs. I draw my line at living in a house that looks exactly like my neighbor's.) The trick now is to find a job...

Outfit. The top is the result of hyasynth playing with Ken doll Acha, turning me into a fine rendition of Oscar Wilde. She even made me a book! The hair is Damien by Truth, the skin is one of the new Nomine boy skins (with sideburns), and the outfit is mostly from Schadenfreude (see that new tie? It's awesome). The pants are the striped ones from the ~silent sparrow~ Voltaire suit in black. Below, my girl avatar is pondering that it's 100% easier to find real estate and houses in SL.

A floating cupcake

Purple cliffs and a sea of star-studded grass. Teal castles. Pink puffed-candy trees. Figurines out of a children's book or a dream, tiptoeing out of the sea. Her face is an upper storey, her hands end in puppets. They look down over the dream-realm -- an empty shop, the promise of more -- with an innocent glee. This is a land meant for play...

I apologize: I'm totally teasing you. I'm hovering above a new sim, one that will open in several days with great fanfare, full of the shops of people I really like. I'm wearing the new coloring of the Le Cupcake dress that katat0nik made for Relay for Life (available at her shop for a donation of 500L), and with it, jewelry that suits it perfectly from Paisley Mizin's tiny new shop, Doodads.

A sparrow's song

Let your love cover me
Like a pair of angel wings.
You are my family,
You are my family.

-- Dar Williams

Whenever I walk through the sim of Silent Sparrow and feel the pure coolness of the virtual air, I think about the warmth of the people who created it (Jessica Ornitz, hyasynth), and feel as though I'm home. If I have any home in Second Life, it's here in these snow-covered hills.

This is the third build that I've seen on Sparrow. The first was the dark Victorian mansion in the swamp. The second, the stark American Gothic farmhouse. This third might be my favorite so far, a frontier town in a snowy place, an abandoned outpost outmoded by time and blessed by a fall of snow. The store itself has completely lost the roof, and in the middle of it is an icy pond... My virtual feet always feel wet amid the drifts. The sim suits the clothing, snow to justify the rich, warm brocade coats and high-buttoned frocks, layers to protect from the blast of cold air.

Ah, I'm wearing a dress that makes my avatar goosepimple today -- it's to show off my new tattoo, a tree with long roots from Schadenfreude. I'm wearing it with these Material Squirrel wings, graceful Sparrow wings in black to hover me over the drifts of snow.

It was a child-rearin' kind of day

Happy Mum's Day to all the people who parent.

Things that I love today include: the new ~silentsparrow~ Gutter Glitter jeans and corset (I'm wearing the jeans from the set, they have super cute sculpted baggy cuffs), Calico Ingmann Creation's adorable Alanna hair, this tree-themed green and purple Fluorite Tree corset of awesomeness from Schadenfreude, and a new Schadenfreude tie, too. I have a thing for trees -- this love stems from my deep absorption in Lord of the Rings (and all the amazing tree symbolism therein), and the Fluorite Tree corset comes with a tree tattoo that I'll wear all by itself eventually.

This post is actually a cleverly disguised pose review. I got a packet of poses from Pretzel*Poses today, and quite liked the whimsical nature of the poses (look, ma! upside-down!). It shall live on my pose sidebar.

I should also mention that I've annexed Terry Toland and Winter Jefferson in the name of giving these worthy blogs some presence on the Fashion Planet of SL feed. Do click their links and shoot over to their sites -- they're well worth stalking.
