Rubber AND cotton maid

I was given a press packet from the store BLONDE, which is "a retro and vintage household goods store." One of the pinafores will be free on opening day, which is Sunday March 22nd at 2PM SLT. The press notice reads: BLONDE already consists of retro household goods for the average 1950 kitchen and lounge. The Spring Launch promises extending the already colourful range of furniture, along with some discounted items. I'm wearing a cute featherduster, rubber gloves, and two kinds of aprons from this store.

Whoooo aaare yooou

I'm in a few lovely new(-ish) release items -- Flower Bangle bracelet by Studio Sidhe, cute Ophelia frock by Weird Designs, Starry Lip Chain by ellabella, and a new hat by Ingenue's millinery line. I haven't written any research observations here lately, so I'm gonna bore you for a second...

[Research] Recently I was caught up in an issue of avatar vs. real life identity. I thought I'd been careful about asking permission before sharing a photo of someone, but apparently the other person didn't think so. Much wangst resulted from this which I won't go into, but the result is that I've had identity on my mind. Avatars are important symbols of who our Second Life people are, and photos are symbols of who our Real Life people are. They function semiotically to frame and 'talk about' ourselves, and therefore, I comprehend that showing a RL image can jar drastically with showing an SL image, sending an entirely different message.

I am pretty straightforward about mixing RL and SL, in fact my flickr stream reflects the flow of my identity between the two. People have different levels of comfort with mixing these messages, and I'm still pondering why. Maybe the two languages -- the idealized cartoon one we get in SL and the warts-and-all we get in RL -- don't play well together? Or maybe it's simply that the narratives are different, and people like their ability to tell a different 'story' in SL? In either case, it makes for a rich way to frame my next presentation...[End research]

Haunted starlight

I am pointy this morning. I adore the clothing line sold at Material Squirrel -- it's by Haunted Zuzu, and it's always sleek and elegant and dangerous in the best possible way. There's now a room that houses the clothing line, and to tell a small story... Once I was in a Haunted Zuzu outfit to go shopping at Crimson Shadow. A few moments after I landed, someone IM'd that she liked my avatar's look, and since she was a photographer, would I agree to model for a few photos? I suspected the woman of being some kind of weirdo, simply because I never get picked up by anyone (must be my shy nature) but the photoshoot turned out quite nicely. The moral is that Haunted Zuzu outfits are sexxeh enough that even *I* get hit on.

This outfit comes with a toothy blindfold and a skirt that is toothy or not depending upon your mood. Grady dear, this is totally an outfit you'd enjoy!

I'm wearing a delicate set by Balderdash, created for the Armoire jewelry thingie. I always boggle at the delicacy of Saiyge's jewelry work, and the Starlight set is no exception. The bracelet especially emphasizes the wrist and hand with the gems caught in the mesh of metal. Here is a better picture of the earring.

I was up above it

Hi. I'm in poses by :::sunflower:::, tattoos that I picked up at -DEMISE- at RFL, and adorable bunny ears and a tail from Umi Usagi. Be warned: the jewelry on the ears blings and waves and jingles, which...I totally didn't notice cause I've got glow turned off and sound muted. All the same, the ears are color changing and loppy and Easter's a-coming...

The :::sunflower::: poses are playful and twisty and bendy; impossible for prim or system skirts, I deem, but excellent for when you want to make artistic, funky tableaus. I'm spending this gorgeous spring day doing...Statistics! (Why am I better at understanding statistics than I ever was at understanding poststructuralism?)

Arise, fair sun

Isn't this frock pretty? It's Juliet by (Elate!), and it's nicely displayed in her brand-new build at Cupcake. The build is well worth a look, it's rainy and dark despite the cupcake theme, which I thought was a fabulously creative twist.

I spent more time than I should've yesterday poking around Oz for coins. I managed to score the Schadenfreude collars, the lovely Eyecandy pendant, and katat0nik's hat! I'm wearing all of these olive tones with more of the stockings and gloves I got from the BeNoir booth at RFL. Speaking of, BeNoir totally suits Mourna too!

Now I'm off to down Motrin and endurance-train more statistics. Cue the Rocky soundtrack...

Boys in low prim/arc

cs01This handsome gent is Sanpierre Juran, and this is his low-arc look for the RFL clothing fair. He says:

My ARC 1 shopping avatar for wandering RFL clothing fair. Men can use facial hair to compensate for the lack of prim hair, so I chose Fallen Gods' Kvasir skin. Outfit is ~silentsparrow's~ morgan suit, with shirt/tie/vest from the sprocket suit. Shoes (non-prim) are the Agent Smith shoes by Launa Fauna - I don't know whether they're available any more.

If you need more inspiration, please see this lovely post by the Dressing in Pixels girls!

Now I need a wench!

ARRRRR. I've mixed up two Relay for Life outfits from ~silentsparrow~ to make this piratey look, the Valerian suit in (verdant) and the Nephilim suite in (candy). I've also got on a new lipring from the growing collection over at Ellabella (also check out the wall o' art that she's put up outside of the shop, very interesting stuff).

Diverting your attention from RFL, have you been to the Armoire Jewelry Show yet? (Guess what! The writing for that is by my writing business, Bitter Ink. *buffs nails*. Also blame me if you get confused on the hunt...the instructions are my fault too.)

***Hat: Illusions Bard's Hat
***Lip pierce: ellabella Pretty Pearls Upon your Lips
***Tattoo: Zenith from the baggy outfit
***Boots: Illusions Pirate Boots in Beau/Strapped/Straight
***Hair: House of Munster Wicked 2 - black and white
***Skin: Den-Dou Gothly skin in pale - dark
***Pink outfit bits: from the ~silentsparrow~ RFL (candy) nephilim suite (SIM 7)
***Green outfit bits: from the ~silentsparrow~ RFL (verdant) valerian suit (SIM 7)

Skinny down

I was so impressed by Lokum's gorgeous post about Selos Dae's new skins (oops, and Terry's post about the skins too!) that I had to copy their looks! It occurred to me that the skin would work perfectly for a stunning low-prim/low-arc RFL outfit, so along with /artilleri's/ Dallas hair, I'm clocking in at 78-prims/16-arc. Not bad for such a neat getup, eh?

I chatted briefly with Selos about the skin. "I don't wanna put on clothing," I said, staring at the swirls of pretty orange.

"Everyone says that," he replied, "that's why I made underwear layers to cover up the naughty parts." The tattoos over the boobs and groin can go away if want to be more daring. The only bit that isn't covered is the arse-crack, just FYI.

I'm also in a few more Penny Dreadful Arcade poses, since I'm wearing an outfit conducive to flopping about. The poses do justice to this skin!

St. Pirate's Day?

Happy St. Paddy's Pirate's Day! There are some clothing items in Second Life that are quite holiday specific. For instance, I'm not sure when else I'd put on a cute clover skirt (katat0nik's from the Magic of Oz clover hunt), so it's gotta be today. I've also noticed the lovely pirate photos adorning various blogs lately, and wanted to contextualize a few RFL items in terms of this theme, so... yah, Arr, me ancient Irish relatives.

I stumbled upon a new-to-me shop, BeNoir, while at RFL (I think AnaLu's done her usual thorough reviews of this shop?), and immediately purchased a few lovely items -- the corset, the gloves, the beautifully textured stockings. I love the depth of fabric of these items and that they're sold as separates, encouraging me to mix it all up. It's such a Hethr Engle shop that I had to give her the link right away, so maybe we'll see some of these items on her...

Remember to de-prim for RFL! You can see some fine de-primmed looks on Azia over here at her blog, the lovely Cajsa here, and Ashia over at Free*Style. (Please comment with links if I've missed your look!)

A sustainable friendship

Once upon a time I suckered a good real life friend into Second Life. We met back in 2001 (feels like a lifetime ago) because of LiveJournal. Then I moved closer to where she lived, and found that we shared an interest in Joss Whedon and roleplaying, although she was far, far cooler about it all than me. Sadly I moved across country from her, but I gained an addiction to a certain MMORPG, and when she read in my LiveJournal that I'd started playing Second Life, she reactivated her account...

Heliotropic Unsustainable is one of my closest world-crossing pals, so when she mentioned that I should take a look at Izzy Bereznyak's new pose shop, Penny Dreadful Arcade, I capitulated at once. Helio has left Second Life for the most part, and I sorely miss her here.

My review of the poses is this: They are made with a lot of thought, and work wonderfully on my boy avatar and a little less so on my short-arse female avatar. They are cinematic and intriguing, which means that they tend to bend clothing around, making a few of the poses unusable for fashion blogging. The ones that work are a lovely addition to my pose repertoire -- I love poses with quirk, and these most definitely have quirk. I'm tempted to use the word 'hipster' to describe some of the positions, but I'd hate to inflict that word on anyone. All in all, Bereznyak has made a great start to his pose career.

The outfit? Sprawl made this awesome coat for Relay for Life, and Lazy Places made those totally awesome Trix boots (a pink shade is RFL-specific). I feel a little like Sai Pennell today in this outfit (coat plus boots and little else), she's the lovely queen of less-is-more. I'm wearing it with a skin from BP* and a new updo. *sigh* I promised myself to spend only at RFL this week, but when BP* releases new items, I fail...

In France, it's Le Cupcake

It is nice to return from a trip and see this voluptuous frock shimmying around my avatar! I love the increasingly Rococo embellishments on katat0nik's bodices, and (inspired by Gogolita, I believe) the flounce around the hips when one wears the outfit sans-skirt. I'm wearing it with over-the-top hair from The Stringer Mausoleum, and really, between the dress and the hair there isn't much need for anything else.
