A rustle of petticoats

I'm going to commence five posts in Victorian garb. Second Life is a place of dreams, and I prefer unrealistic, imaginative Victorian to stodgy period-wear. It's fun to get inspiration from authenticity, but what's more fun for me is to browse through Grim Brothers or Laughing Academy and see just what they've done to twist it. I'm posing with two lovely Caledonians today. The woman in red is Terry Lightfoot, designer of the Victorian frock shop To a T. She's in one of her new outfits, her yearly (and gorgeously frilled) Valentine's day dress (I'll be doing another post about this dress in a day or so). Also with me is Magdalena Kamenev, who interprets Victorian via her inner Neko. She's in a Laughing Academy dress.

The Grim Brothers dress that I'm wearing took a trip to the Steampunk place. It has some notable details. It's dark, so it's hard to photograph well, but in-world you can see that the mess of rusted metal is embedded with clock faces (as is the bodice), and as Ellantha pointed out, the hands of the clocks all turn. I really enjoy dressing in Victorian wear, partly because of the imaginative liberties taken with the period, and Grim Brothers dresses make my mind soar.

Speaking of soaring minds, I'm afraid I've got to go do statistics now.

Bye bye bunny...

Last week Thursday I commenced Bunny Week. It had cuteness! Drama! Fur! Baked bunnies! What more could one ask from a random internet meme? But now, it is the last day, and I am sad and happy to see it go. Benefits of bunny avatar: adds massive cuteness to every outfit. Drawbacks: hard to fit the little body sometimes. There were some clothes that I definitely couldn't wear during bunny week. Also, hats tended to detach the head, and chokers were lost. If you'll miss Bunny Week, never fear -- DP**yumyum is coming out with more varieties of the CSR bunny avatar in different colors! I'll probably hop right over when they're out!

Would you like to sit on a star

Just the other day I pondered to myself, Hmmm, wonder how Zenith is doing? Then, up popped a notice for a new frock. It's the Chicago dress, and it has the same hip style to it as the rest of Zenith's stuff, but this time with a flirty pair of gartered stockings and a little ruffled skirt. The ruffled skirt put me in mind of ~momo's~ new release, the synesthesia dress. It's so pink I tasted cotton candy and heard the sound of a distant circus...

Below, I am sporting a new bit of jewelry from Studio Sidhe -- it's a nose-to-ear chain made of silver and delicate bells, and while it looks pretty on me I can see it absolutely glowing on someone like Strawberry...:D The skins are new from a store called Skinthesis. I quite like the way the lips are drawn, and the pale-toned skin has a lot of character.

The invited talk at was FUN. Nothing like teaching a room full of journalists the meaning of the term 'slash.' (Then tying it back to theories of literacy.) But now, o yes, my brain is shot.

Plurk is mighty

Cooking? Bring it on!

NOTHING TO SEE HERE. (Especially not satire.)

Okay, there might be an enormous number of bunnies in a frying pan (made by Aisuru Reiko) posing (with LAP poses) for photos. Thanks to the bunny brigade for taking part: Lola79 Hienrichs, ellantha Larsson, Elusyve Jewell, Brandy Rasmuson, Katat0nik Pidgeon, hyasynth Tiramisu, Aisuru Reiko, Allegory Malaprop, Phire Zuhra, Sakuradawn Lei, Faery Sola, Stephen Bentman, Jessica Ornitz, Wednesday Soon, and Caliah Lyons.

With any luck, you'll get to see other people's takes on this bunny happening :D.

Tribute: Strange Pixels

This post is my tribute to Strange Pixels. I love many things about this Second Life blog, especially that the outfits always tell a story. Grady is the armored one. Her tales are of clomping through the wastes of Second Life, protected to the gills (and eyes). Mourna is the ethereal dark fairy one, floating in her tattered cuffs and crinoline, reflecting a lost mythic world. Dancien is the boy, but he is more than simply a cavalier and prop; he writes to a punk and dangerous vibe, the softness of his lipstick belying the toughness of his attitude. The three of them write photo-essays that go far beyond fashion and end up wiggling their ways into my imagination.

To you three: L'chaim! Thank you for the constant inspiration.

Ded of teaching

Today, I taught. I love teaching. I taught about LOLcats and how they are an example of culture-specific language -- how LOLcats describe the way in which language makes perfect sense in context, but little sense out of context. The class thinks I'm nuts, of course. They're a bunch of great kids, and it'll be a nice last semester at UGA (before we move to Florida and deal with whatever comes next).

I'm exhausted; now for hours of grading. I'm wearing an adorable bloody coatdress from *Canalgrande* while I grade (or at least my avatar is -- RL me is in argyle today). I posted about the freebies from this shop earlier (over here), and saved one of the non-free dresses for bunneh-Ach.

Mm. Grading. Tastes like chicken.

Ving boots!

So many things to say today! First is that it's Robert Burns day, and here is a bit of the address to the haggis:

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread.
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll make it whissle;
An' legs, an' arms, an' heads will sned,
Like taps o' thrissle.
-- more

In short, sheep's stomach stuffed with wheat and barley. *cough* Highlander moment.

Second, what does the Japanese mean, above? It means "kiss my bottom," and it's directed at the anonymous bunny-haeter over here. Gogolita, don't feel bad -- getting on SL Secrets means that you're a big enough target to warrant the attention, and sadly there are a few people who can't express themselves maturely. I guess that means that bunny week has hit the big time 8D. Thank you for the incentive to keep going!

Third, and most importantly, (Shiny Things) released the Ving boots, and I'm going to post the next five posts in THOSE amazing things. I'd like to make the following remark about the boots: "lsdkfjahdfasjdfls." That translates roughly into, Oh my, the textures, the buckles, the colors, the prims.
