Christmas ball

When I was a child, my ballet school used to stick me in all the boy roles. I was the bad brother in The Nutcracker, the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, and the Toymaker in Babes in Toyland. In my stint as a ballet-school token boy, I learned the following: unless you are a bad boy in ballet, you only exist as a prop to the woman. Here, my boy-avvie is very definitely a prop. He's the foil in a female-centric universe, the MacGuffin through which the woman's plot is enacted. Will the beautiful Fade Lei get to the ball? Will she slay the heart of the fair prince? Only time (and the prince's penchant for boys) will tell.
