A sparrow's song

angel_wings01

Let your love cover me
Like a pair of angel wings.
You are my family,
You are my family.

-- Dar Williams

Whenever I walk through the sim of Silent Sparrow and feel the pure coolness of the virtual air, I think about the warmth of the people who created it (Jessica Ornitz, hyasynth), and feel as though I'm home. If I have any home in Second Life, it's here in these snow-covered hills.

This is the third build that I've seen on Sparrow. The first was the dark Victorian mansion in the swamp. The second, the stark American Gothic farmhouse. This third might be my favorite so far, a frontier town in a snowy place, an abandoned outpost outmoded by time and blessed by a fall of snow. The store itself has completely lost the roof, and in the middle of it is an icy pond... My virtual feet always feel wet amid the drifts. The sim suits the clothing, snow to justify the rich, warm brocade coats and high-buttoned frocks, layers to protect from the blast of cold air.

Ah, I'm wearing a dress that makes my avatar goosepimple today -- it's to show off my new tattoo, a tree with long roots from Schadenfreude. I'm wearing it with these Material Squirrel wings, graceful Sparrow wings in black to hover me over the drifts of snow.
