Yay! CSR!

Yay CSR! Winter CSR has begun, and I walked around the grid like this for an hour, stamping all of my carefully hoarded stamp cards. I redeemed nine cards, although all twenty items are really worthy of snagging. A few of the top prizes on my must-nab list were this outfit from Curious Kitties (including hair, hat, boots, shape -- texture changing too) and the Wonder Cycle from Happy Mood. I love this, so much.

Dress Me Up 16: Ach by Alyx, Ashia and Charlemagne

Awright, Alyx. It is really kind of difficult to look like Lawrence of Arabia in Second Life, especially after the limit that I set myself with this bunch of challenges. I'm answering three today, and my self-imposed rule was, Must be stuff from my inventory, nothing purchased! Let's pretend he doesn't have a small moob issue either...

The three challenges were as follows:
Alyx: I'd love to see BOY Ach as some kind of emo Lawrence of Arabia type.
Ashia: I'd like to see you in traditional japanese. Kimono, obi, full hair with ornaments and of course the skin.
Charlemagne: One suggestion, if you get the chance: Ookami Ningen and Zero Style Hairs

The cowl was quite difficult, I must admit, as was the skirt. As it is, I think the skirt gives poor Lawrence-brand-Ach a bit of an arse issue -- it's bustled. Also, he's wearing garters beneath that, from the Sister Light outfit -- shh, don't tell. The other two outfits were quite fortuitously in my inventory. I've got more traditional kimono, but I really love this gothic kimono dress from Zephi's Shop and jumped at the chance to wear it again. The Harajuku furs from Ookami Ningen are simply fun, and I think Charlemagne was right, this shop really goes well with hair from Zero Style. Thanks, another three fun challenges!

Kimono outfit:
***Boots: J's Side lace-up thigh boots
***Kimono-dress: Zephi's Shop Kimono Gothic dress
***Skin: Mijn Boa's Geisha Skin, free at Hotel Dare. this is a landmark to the sim - it's somewhere. I always lose this darned shop, it's called "free shit that doesn't suck" or something.
***The geisha hair and ornaments no longer exist; it was from a shop called Soulfire. *moment of silence*
Lawrence of Second Life outfit:
***Skirt and cowl: Little Heaven Sister White (meant for girls!)
***Skin: Den-Dou Ichiro Pale /06 Eyeliner

Drakenfreudian slips?

Sakuradawn in Schadenfreude

I finally enlisted help in my Night-merry Christmas mini-series. Ellantha and Sakura were kind enough to hop over and dig out their green and red. I wanted to mix Schadenfreude with Draconic in this one,, or perhaps Drackenfreude. Ellantha wore one of her favorite coats, Draconic's Snow Angel -- I also love this coat and have it in black and light blue.

Sakuradawn wore her green ensemble from Schadenfreude, a hunt item from the first Oz hunt. (Speaking of this, I have yet to find any of those...blessed candycanes. Ah well, perhaps I'll head back now before the weekend rush.) I'm wearing Draconic's great Halloween costume, Little Red Riding Hood -- it comes with a variety of options including a fabulous red cloak for hiding your vampiric skin from the winter sun.

Ahh, my brain is fried. I think it's time to get some egg nog and put on the Nat King Cole.

katty Christmas

I'm continuing my gothification of Christmas (or Christmasification of goth) with two outfits by katat0nik today. I love her katty dolls, and these two dollies are actually lucky chair items right now. The Snow Monster is abominably adorable!

What to say about these two dresses? The Mortido is one of my favorite coats in SL, and as for the second one, I'm in awe of the pretty wintery scene drawn onto the skirt. kat's outfits are getting more and more creative with time, and it's inspiring to see what she'll come up with next. I'll get back to finishing my dress up challenges in a little while -- my Lindens and I needed a break!

(Night)Merry Christmas!

There's something about the idea of a gothic edge to Christmas that's been inspiring the hell out of me lately, and in honor of this urge I thought I'd put together a few looks to try to express what I've been feeling... They're mashups of outfits found at ~silentsparrow~ and a few other stores, and I tried to emphasize the darker side of the holiday. (All credits are down below in my blog if they cut off.)

It's eerie how much the Devana frock looks like it was made for Christmas, including the little tree-esque cut-out on the bodice. *runs from hya!* On the whole, however, I think I fit the mood of a certain favorite Christmas movie of mine (and no, not Tremors this time):

My compliments from me to you
On this your most intriguing hat
Consider though this substitute
A bat in place of this old rat...

(Night)Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Dress Me Up 15: Ach by Felicity

This look is from Felicity: How about a great dress from hmmm Axel? That'd be fun! Hair from JE Republic? freebies have been saving my budget, I must admit. I put on this cute Christmas gift from Axel and immediately thought "macabre cabaret," which meant I had to go find a circus. I forgot that Kurotsubaki's sim is no longer a circus - should've gone to Carnival of Doom instead! The hair is adorable too -- I like hair with built-in hats. Saves my lazy arse the trouble of carefully fitting things. The hair and hat were also in keeping with the macabre cabaret theme, as were these ripped tights from Kyoot Army and the slightly vampiric skin from Den-Dou.

It is a mark of my sleepiness that I almost typed "Carnival of Doon." What is a Doon? Sounds like something out of all four parts of Tremors. ...Fine. I love Tremors. It's a great Christmas movie, right up there with Vampire 2000.

Dress Me Up 14: Ach by London and Liana

I'm combining two challenges. One is from London: So many submissions and styles! But what about a gown? If you have any strength left after so many challenges, I think I would like to see you in a very sober one, like Nicky Ree's Constelation Grace Gold. You may choose any other but the conditions are no frills, clear tones and long gloves. Ah, yes, you can also get a little updo for it... See what happens? You teach me a word and I go and use it against you *smiles widely and waves*. The other is from Liana Arai: My suggestion is dress from Icing, hair from Ingenue and shoes from either Periquita or Kookie. Skin choice I will leave up to you :)

Instead of purchasing a frock from Nicky Ree's, I decided to stay true to London's theme of a long sober gown in a clear tone (hm, I assume black is a clear tone) with long gloves, but went for Liana's suggestion of Icing instead, figuring that the styling there was classic enough for London's prompt too. The shoes are hiding beneath my skirt, but they're Periquita's Mary Janes, and the little updo is Ingenue's Marilyn, which isn't an updo so much as pincurls...but still leaves the neck bare to suit the line of the dress.

Please notice the new items in this outfit, Stuido Sidhe's jewelry set, the Silver Filigree with Bell bracelet (more of a glove), earrings and pendant. They're just glorious, especially the glove-like metal around the wrist and upper hand, and make me feel quite luminous as I stand around in a black gown.

This outfit was fun; thank you for the challenges!

***Jewelry: Studio Sidhe Silver filigree with Bell set, Bracelet, earrings, pendant
***Dress: Icing Jezebel
***Hair: Ingenue Marilyn in black
***Gloves: Fleur Gloves Long Black
***Shoes: Periquita Mary Squares in black
***Tattoo: Alices Garden Tattoo - Macy
***Skin: DEN-DOU Gothly Skin - pale - dark (and eyes)

Dress Me Up 13: Ach by Tristan

As befits challenge #13 (a super-unlucky number for me for various good reasons), this was a difficult challenge! Tristan wanted: some leggings from fishy strawberry..philotic energy hair....piercings from genesha (No Mercy) from garden of ku...flirt from SLink.. And a few other things, but I settled for this list. I'm not sure why, but nothing at all was gelling for me. Even now, I feel strangely matchy-matchy, as if I should mitigate all that orange and black with something green or purple. I dunno! At a certain point you just gotta cut your losses and run with it...

Notable are three things: First, the gorgeous Engineer's Cap from Fade Dana, very well done and in a variety of styles with and without buckles. One can't go wrong with caps from Fade, and this is yet another fine style with "Christmas gift" written all over it. Check out her goggles while you're there! Second, and contrasting with the toughness of the hat, is this choker from ~flirt~. I really like the quality and color-changing ability of the choker, too. Third, this lovely blushing skin. It's new from *katat0nik*, one of her Skins of Delphi, and it's currently available to her group for a special price (correct me if I'm wrong, kat!). katat0nik is getting even more skillful with her lip design and cheek and eye coloring, and it's exciting to see where her skins go from here!

The rest of the outfit is made up of lovely pieces that would probably look great in some other configuration. Ah well, I tried ♥.

***Lip ring: *No Mercy* Tarepanda
***Ring: ~flirt~ Interactions in silver/diamond
***Choker: ~flirt~ hearts & Diamonds Choker w/ color changing script
***Socks: *SHOP SEU* lucky chair socks, kushukushi kutsushita black
***Miniskirt: Schadenfreude from the noir revenant set
***Jacket: SLink Leather Jacket in burnt orange
***Tattoo: Garden of Ku Hanamachi Dream
***Hair: Philotic Energy PE Nat - Black
***Skin: katat0nik (orange) Snow Bunny Skin
***Hat: Fade Dana Black Engineers Cap (buckles)
***Boots: J's Engineer Long Boots, group gift
***Leggings: Fishy Strawberry Leggins FlowerPower red

Dress Me Up 12: Ach by Guenevere

Guenevere said: I would suggest clothes from Rebel Xtravaganza, Hair from C + C, Shoes from First Flower, Accessories from Schadenfreude. Lucky for my wallet, I had items from every single one of these designers in my inventory. I love ~First Flower~ shoes and really wish the designer would come back and play in SL s'more. I also love Schadenfreude stuff (if you couldn't tell), especially these little Lennon glasses that I got during the Magic of Oz opening hunt. The hair from Crimson + Clover is such a cute style that I think I need it in more colors, although the bright red contrasted with the teal green is in keeping with the unfortunate color vibe that I've got going this Christmas season. Shuddup.

I was also lucky because I'd just purchased Rebel Extravaganza's brand new Black Swan dress, the "Not Your Average Fairytale." It's the second Rebel-X- Item I've worn for these challenges -- Rouge is totally popular! Black Swan is also a great event -- I've loved everything I've purchased from it.

***Glasses: Schadenfreude Green Spectacles
***Shoes: First Flower Hoya Strapped in Black
***Hair: Crimson + Clover Sydney - Red
***Skin: Curio GP Pearl - Emerald - freckles
***Outfit: Rebel - X - Not Your Average Fairytale

All wrapped up for Christmas

D'awww, thanks, Dark Eden! I really enjoyed entering this contest, and I thought that all of the finalists were extremely talented. It's fun to put on tiny bits of metal and look all dangerous, and I hope it somehow exhibits the qualities of a Miss December. (Hm, perhaps I should've worn antlers?)

In honor of Dark Eden (SLURL HERE) I'm wearing their Lilith Holiday Boots and Xmas Shibari rope. I noticed that Carissa Crimson got a complaint about the Dark Eden Shibari advert, and would like to mention that Shibari is a very exacting Japanese form of rope work. The fact that Dark Eden has enough of a sense of humor to make a Christmas version of the ropes makes me feel overjoyed -- only in Second Life can we find this kind of meeting of cultures, and I celebrate it.

Dress Me Up 11: Ach by Analu

I am Posh Barbie today with AnaLu's great suggestions: Dutch Touch or MG fashion for clothes, AuMa or Truth for boots and ETD (still on sale) for hair. I went with an old MG Fashions outfit from last season, one that I still love (that corset! Those pants! That poofy yet shapely sweater!). I also found a few items from ETD in my wardrobe, a lovely hat from an old St. Patrick's Day hunt, and this hair that I think I got for Boy Ach.

The boots are brand new. I saw them advertised and hungered after them to the extent that I popped into Truth to look at them. I admit that I quickly fled -- I was dressed in Christmas Loli that day, and felt completely out of place in the realm of sweaty midriffs. This gave me a good excuse to return and snag a pair before running back to Loli-ville...

Also new are these awesome gloves from the jeweler Bliensen + MaiTai. These gloves have gorgeous color-changing cuffs, and come in a variety of shades. If you look closely at the bottom picture, you'll see that I discovered the cuffs' color-changing ability after I took my first few photos...hee, I fail. Still, they suited the Christmassy quality of this outfit, and I love the buckles.

The skin is an old group gift from Dutch Touch, and I really like it - great collarbones! It isn't my usual pale gothy type thing either, but it is very well done, and the Dutch Touch group is lucky to get such quality free items. Speaking of quality free items, good God, people, be nice to kindly creators. They barely make enough money to run their sims in these times of economic depression, and you dare bitch? Sheesh.

To end on a happy note, I completely deny feeling the Christmas spirit.

***Pierce: *No Mercy* Lip Piercing
***Hair: ETD Sean in black-bronzed
***Hat: ETD Chic Fedora - Lucky Green (St. Patty's Day freebie)
***Outfit: MG Fashion Hunting Season Outfit in Charcoal
***Earrings: Balderdash - Jazz Funeral
***Skin: Dutch Touch group gift, series 2 female skin (from a while ago)
***Gloves: Bliensen + MaiTai Vintage Leather Gloves

A winter masque

hyasynth showed me the Snow Glass Suite and asked that I pen a few lines for the Black Swan fashion show. It's easy to write about things that are evocative, and in this case, the dress became a poem in my head.

A tale unfolds upon this dress,
A rhyme of lost innocence.
A girl amid a winter field
A raven dark, his wings revealed.
An apple glows a warning red
Upon the snow the color bled.
Snow White, skin like fallen snow
her bloody lips with red will glow,
Hair as black as raven claws
Reflection dark in mirror's jaws.
This frock will tell a warning tale
A winter masque in which innocence fails.

...This is the great joy and great sorrow of Second Life -- we live on the Floating World here, with disposable art that we can buy for a few dollars to support the artist and wear for a little while...before we move on to other things, other art. It's such a bittersweet joy to be involved in the Second Life fashion industry, knowing that it's art in ephemeral pixels. I wish moments like this dress could be preserved more fittingly than in words, or pictures, or in SL. If someone can figure out a way to export SL to RL, just let me know.

***Outfit: ~silentsparrow~ Black Swan Snow Glass Suite
***Jewelry: Schadenfreude Irmina earrings and necklace
***Shoes: Dark Eden Mistweave Metis Skates
***Hair: Calico Ingmann Creations Sarah II - Ivory
***Skin: [42] Dark Matter 01 Pale
***Apple: Schadenfreude unpoison apple

Dress me up 10: Ach by Lokum

Lokum gave me a fun challenge: I am thinking Cake long hair, Ce Cubic Effect ensemble any, Maiterya boots, paper couture jewellery and the skin I keep seeing these Soda skins. This challenge was fun because I hadn't been to many of these shops! The one item that I didn't put on was the Soda skin. I went and stared at them for a little while and even bought one, but all together the ensemble lost an Ach flavor -- I needed to go a touch gothy to keep myself feeling like myself. I'm wearing my favorite Fleur skin instead, the Biba (I really love the way the lips fit my shape, and the dark plushness of the lips and eyes).

Of course I'd been to Paper Couture before, but not for the jewelry. So many tempting things to purchase -- I decided upon this necklace of bunched stones, figuring that my fashionista vampire needed some kind of blood metaphor for her pale neck. I really like this Ce Cubic Effect dress -- the texture of the fabric is nice, and the sculpty skirt fits well yet doesn't feel heavy (sometimes I find that sculpties can make a whole outfit feel cumbersome, because it doesn't move). Good suggestions, Lokum! Thanks.

Here I am trying to sparkle in the sunlight a la Twilight

***Outfit: Ce Cubic effect Song Bird in Black_Red
***Hair: Cake - Wish - Deep Red
***Boots: Maitreya SoHo Boots 'Black Suede'
***Necklace: Paper Couture P.C; Garnet Nest Necklace - Red
***Pierce: No Mercy Lip Piercing
***Tights: GLAM tintable metallic medium tone store freebie
***Skin: Fleur vivant cream biba 3

Girl in boy's duds

This particular post is for Analu's Armoire Diversity Challenge. I think I'd like to entitle it, "Snakes -- why does it always have to be snakes?!" The Doc Eldritch Undiscovered outfit meant for men goes so very well with the ::69:: ENVY hair, and also with this riding crop to create a very Indy look (and I don't mean the band scene). I should probably have a whip, right?

***Shoes: (Shiny Things) Flare Oxfords in black
***Outfit: Doc Eldritch Designs Undiscovered in Black/Black
***Crop: from the ~silentsparrow~ nightmare suit
***Tattoo: Alexitimia Biomechanical Android
***Hair with hat: ::69:: Envy me in silver

Dress Me Up 9: Ach by Cajsa

Cajsa was lovely and researched what kinds of things I'd like before suggesting two very specific items, the Nightshade Red outfit from Rebel Xtravaganza, and Dark Elf Skin from Fallen Gods. One can never have too many little skirty gothy outfits, nor too many Dark Elf skins, so I went for both. I think Cajsa is right, the skin is very elegant for being drow -- I like the scribblework aroud the eyes, and the shading is very precise too.

I'm wearing them with jewelry from Little Boy Blue -- I've been on a LBB kick these past few days, because Christmas just cries out for little skeletons. Isn't this time of year about death and rebirth, after all? With me is Schadenfreude's Ellie and antlers, both things you can get if you click 100000 times on her Christmas stocking of doom. I'm kind of addicted to this stocking.

There have been a lot of bloody gorgeous posts lately from this challenge. I've enjoyed every single one! Thanks for playing -- it's really turned SL back into a game for me.

***Outfit: Rebel-X- Nightshade Red
***Skin: Fallen Gods Dark Elf Female Skin, Dawn Thorns
***Gloves: amerie's Naughty Sugary Armwarmers (red)
***Pierce: *No Mercy* Lip Piercing
***Necklace: Little Boy Blue Merskeleton necklace

***Tattoo: MiaSnow Candy Heart Tattoo
***Hair: House of Munster Glitch in black and white
***Eyes: Blue Blood Evil Skull Red Eyes
***Antlers and plushie: From Schadenfreude's amazing stocking

Dress Me Up 8: Ach by Lola and L&S

Two challenges again today. First from Lola: Okay I would love to see your take on Visual Kei/JRock style either on boy ach or lovely female ach :D. Lola directed me to check out various bands, The Gazette, Malice Mizer, Buck Tick, D'espairs Ray, MUCC. I really like Mana's styles -- I follow his stuff every month in the Gothic Lolita Bible, so I thought I'd go for a Mana hair and a slightly more rocking and less Loli outfit.

Lola suggested Discord for the outfit and [][]Trap[][] for the skins -- I like both shops and don't wear their stuff enough, so it was a great excuse to dig stuff out of my inventory. The interesting thing about skins from [][]Trap[][] is that it's sometimes tough to see where the outfit ends and the skin begins! I think I look a bit like Slash from Guns 'n' Roses, and since I spent college in Jersey, this isn't an insult. :D

The bottom photo was a challenge from Hannah of L&S medieval designs. She sent me a pretty medieval dress to wear -- definitely not my usual style, but I could see people wearing it habitually on Renaissance Island. I put it on with a few of my favorite things from the past few challenges, the Love Song hair from Exile and skin from [42].
