Dress Me Up 7: Ach by Dakota and Mourna

girl01

It's kind of fun to genderswitch in the middle of a photo shoot. Poor boi Ach didn't look quite right in the jewelry, however -- he said that despite his penchant for crossdressing, the gold chains were a little over-the-top. Girl Ach, on the other hand, quite liked the gold jewelry (part of this silk set by Dazzle). These looks are inspired by two challenges: Dakota: I would really like to see Boy-Ach in eXceSs skin, hair and clothes. :) Mourna: Lets see Ach in silks! ;D

I was hopping around the floating world yesterday looking for various things when Noam and Fade tugged me over to see some ghosts. I explained my mission, and Fade handed me some vintage silks. These are from the defunct Dazzle line, and it's a shame that the store is no more. The silks are nicely done, fit my boy and girl avs to a T, and seem tasteful in a 50s movie kind of way. My girl av feels like Zha Zha Gabor in a film about Ghengis Khan.

The boi avatar is in skin and hair from eXceSs, one of Dakota's favorite stores. The androgyne line of skins truly are interesting -- some of them seem more suited to female avs than male avs (something about the lips and eyebrows), but I think my boi looks quite nice, if a little twee, in all that blue skin. The slightly darker blue shading is well done. The hair is a group gift in the eXceSs store, and there's also a sweater next to it.

Edit: Giggle. Dakota pointed out that boi Ach is in a female skin. Question: why call a skin "Androgyne" if it's meant for women? This is especially confusing when there's an Androgyne line of skins that are meant for both ... Anyway. I still think he looks nice :D.

I wanna see more challenges! I can't wait to see everyone else's looks -- it's been so much fun.

Dress Me Up 6: Ach by Belochka

belochka01

Belochka suggested: BP* has some very cute gingham, button-front skirts, I'd love to see an outfit with one of those. And Ibizarre does some nice knit tops too. :) She added, "Boots from Aoharu, hair from Gritty Kitty, and there's a fuzzy sweater that just came out from Pig Shop." These items fit together in my mind and suddenly I pondered a larger shape. I think that to me, comfy skirts and chenille sweaters mean softness, which isn't part of my usual angular little shape.

Luckily Pipsqueak Fiddlesticks gave me her shape a long time ago. I modified the face to look more like me, and when I put it on with this outfit it seemed kind of perfect. This is the shape that little kids love to squirm on -- this av has a soft, comfy lap and is meant for cuddling. Thanks, Belochka!

Dress Me Up 5: Ach by Sakuradawn

sakura01

Sakuradawn said: Clothing from Canimal, hair from Truth. I decided that surely Sakura wanted to see these on boy-me, so...I present the gayest elf this side of Rivendell :D. I'm still feeling very happy wearing other people's suggestions. There's never a bad time for Canimal, and I think the jacket looks awesome over this flexible turtleneck (part of ~silentsparrow's~ Sylvan suit) and smokin' hot pants from [][]Trap[][].

Selos Dae really does know how to make boys look sexxeh -- look at the workmanship on the sculpted pants bits! I kind of want to pimp my elf out in Lothlorien now -- perhaps work some rough elf trade in exchange for Lembas and a broach or two.

Ah, I just noticed the Armoire Diversity Challenge from Ana Lu! What a neat idea. And hmmm, I think this post just fulfilled the requirements.

The question, however, remains: Am I hotter than Sven? :D

An elf in LA

brandy01

Brandy gave me quite a Dress Me Up challenge, one that led me on a day-long quest... Along the way I consulted with Ellantha, who has been invaluable aid these past few days ("Please not pink and blue at the same time" was one excellent insight), and got to wander in some very lovely places. I really enjoyed walking around Ivy Falls -- the sim reminds me of a pretty European village built around a river. Brandy has a number of photographs of this sim on her Flickr account somewhere.

I'd never been to Launa Fauna's clothing shop (skin shop, yes), and I quite love the arse on these silver pants. I'm wearing it with a jacket from Armidi. Have you used http://shoparmidi.com? It's kind of neat. You register by going to this kiosk that feels like you're floating around on the website and give it money. This is deeply surreal. Then you order stuff from a site that really does feel like a J.Crew catalogue.

The resulting outfit needed some demonification, so I added these black-and-pink eyes by Aralute. I think it makes me look like some kind of demon trying my best to pass in LA. Cheers, another fun one, Brandy!

Dress Me Up 3: Ach by Kaylenie

snatch01

Kaylenie Magic suggested this to me for the Dress Me Up Challenge: "I would try the new Dark Matter skins from [42], Outfit from Ova Hauled or SN@TCH (they also have shoes), And try Detour for hair."

I was quite happy to see the suggestion to wear Sn@tch, because the inspiration for this series actually came from something that Ivey Deschanel said in her blog -- why not write about old favorite designers more often? Why am I always writing about stuff that's shiny and new? I thought this was a good point, because I do tend to get into ruts, or write about the same handful of designers all the time, and it's great to see if a different shop can be suited to my own taste.

In this case, Sn@tch matches my taste quite perfectly (the jacket is so very opulent, and I want the pants IRL), as does this hair from Detour. I especially love Kaylenie for introducing me to this skin from [42] -- you get a number of lovely skins for 750L, and the makeup is just perfect, eyes and lips all bruised and dark against a blushing cheek. Thanks, Kaylenie!

Dress Me Up 2: Ach by Winter

achbywinter01

Today, Ken-doll-style Achariya had the luck to be dressed up (explanatory post here) by Winter Jefferson! He suggested a few shops to me. One of them, Psycho Kat tattoos, proved to be gone! Also, the shoes from Slade and Humby didn't quite match this outfit, although I'll use them for something else. I am wearing two of his suggestions -- an outfit from GothiCatz (meant for girls but without any moob shading, so it works on my boy av), and hair from the Stringer Mausoleum. I've always wanted hair from this place, and am incredibly happy with these floaty red dredlocks.

I'm also enjoying seeing everyone in their undies suggesting outfits for people! It really is fun to go sartorially nuts with someone else's outfit, and to see what they'll come up with -- as fun as exploring new and different shops.

Thanks, Winter! Maybe someday boy-Ach can look as cute as you ;)

Dress Me Up 1: Ach by Phire

achbyphire

I'm totally excited, because in response to the Dress Me Up challenge that I posted earlier today, Phire Zuhra and her daughter (Phirette?) played dress-up with my avatar. It was fun -- not only do I really dig this look, but I got to explore several cool new-to-me shops, too!

Phire suggested that I get an outfit from Bijou and hair from Novocaine ("Because I actually want to get hair from there and haven't yet," she said). I really liked both shops -- Bijou for paying attention to the distressed and wrinkled fabric on this coat-dress, and Novocaine for the fluffiness of this little mop.

Then Phire's little girl looked at a picture of me and said, "She needs glasses."

What a smart child, eh? I absolutely did, so I put on big red glasses to match the bright lips of the Celestial Studios skin (also Phire's pick). I think I look lovely; different from my usual look but still quite Ach-y. (Ach-y breaky...hm.) So far, the challenge has been fun! Feel free to suggest more designers for me to try. As Phire said, it's like playing Barbie!

(Would that make Winter and Lawless our Ken-dolls? Hm.)

Dress Me Up Challenge!

dressmeup

In the spirit of all the great challenges going around lately, I am posting a call to bloggers to move out of their comfort zone: the Dress me up challenge! I know that I get stuck wearing a certain set of designers for skins, shoes, jewelry, hair, and clothing, and I'd like to widen my knowledge of SL fashion. What better way to do this than ask the experts, the other people who enjoy SL fashion?

Rules:
1. Post a picture of yourself in your underpants.
2. In this post, invite your readers to suggest a particular outfit (or hair, jewelry, shoes, skin, etc.) from a designer for you to purchase and write about. (Designers, feel free to suggest items from your own line - why not, after all?) People who respond should explain why they like these items.
3. In the next few weeks, look back over the suggestion list and incorporate these ideas into your regular blogging, marking these entries with the tag "dress me up." Post in as many or few suggestions as you want. It's up to the blogger's discretion to pick which items to wear, so no complaining if they don't pick your idea, K? :D

Most of all, have fun with this! I hope it'll help me break out of my blogging routine, and I hope it'll be fun for you too. ♥

Okay guys, what should I wear? =)

But are the boots made out of gryphon skin?

berryxmas02

Wahaha. I received an IM from Neferia this morning. "Thanks for writing about my dress yesterday. I'd better release it, then." Ooops. I've done this to poor MiaSnow too! As always, designers are lovely about stuff like this, but I guess I have to warn you that if I have something in my inventory, chances are I'll write about it -- let me know if it's out yet or not!

Definitely released are these awesome Christmas Gryphon boots from Lazy Places (check out all of the new releases here), new adorable hair and a sweater from BettiePage (Creamy wrote about the gifts in the shop here), and new skin from Fleur. The Fleur skin is richly colored and washed in a soft layer of powder for a very elegant look, straight out of Gigi. "Thank heavens / for little girls..." Hm.

Rebel-X- just sent this cute strawberry gift to her group, too. It's frozen, so I highly recommend wearing gloves, or your fingers will totally stick.

Bowling on my mind

patchwork02

A week back when I was photographing people, Neferia came to the shoot wearing this pretty patchwork dress. I put it on today and decided to wear it with a wash of neutral colors. I like how comfortable my avatar looks! IRL, I'd put it on and head straight for a fire with some marshmallows for roasting and hot cocoa.

In SL I think I'm going to put up Christmas decorations today! Not only has Schadenfreude gone nuts with a tree farm in Horst, but /artilleri/ has too, with a Christmas Workshop where the bowling alley used to be. IRL, I might just put up my tiny Christmas tree ... it's small and plastic until my toddler has the self-restraint to not climb the tree, but we make homemade ornaments every year.

Speaking of making stuff, this morning my daughter and I collaborated on our first personalizable figurine! She did the hard part, like the hair and the clothing, and I did the face. I think we'll do one together every year, and see how her artwork changes over time...
