Hair Fair post!

booN DOT7 42 hair blond

I blew my budget on hair! Therefore, I'm wearing an outfit collected from free items today. The shoes and skin are group gifts, the dress is (was?) from the Carnival of Doom lucky chair (poor Rezzables was so slammed that the sim didn't rez for me to check and make sure that the lucky chair was still there), and the necklace is an old standard freebie from Pixel Dolls.

Isn't the skin glowing and fresh? It's a creation of Mijn Boa, the woman whose gallery I invaded a while back. She's got a small artist collective group (I just borrow your eyes), and the skin is a free gift to the group. (Please do not abuse the group to get the free skin however, thanks!) She's thinking about making skins and has a few in the works, possibly for sale one day.

The hair. Ellantha teased me for having a small BettiePage obsession, and yes, yes I have one. The lag was so vast that I ran in, got new items from a few select people (such as BettiePage), and then fled. I'll go back once the furor has died down a bit! I also snuck in a photo of the new hair from ::69:: because it's just so cute.

Hair Fair challenge

(I wrote about MiaSnow's new skins earlier today...)

In honor of hair fair, I challenge you all to put together your lowest-prim looks. How cool can you look with no attachments at all?! Inquiring Gollums wanna know. *Gollum, gollum.*

It's very easy being green

More photos on my Flickr account

MiaSnow is going to release these green skins later today, the Green Goddess set. Who better to photograph with than the queen of green herself, Allegory Malaprop? We went to Tableau so that we could photograph in a wash of color. I remembered to myself that this is where I met Allegory, so long ago. Second Life is full of rich and strange things -- builds that defy the laws of physics, women who bling like the sun -- but friendships here can be just as life-impacting. (Relationships too. I note that I now know two women who have gotten divorces because of the things they'd learned about relationships in Second Life.)

Why are you here? I wonder that to myself all the time. I think the reason changes -- like yesterday morning, I had a lovely time using skype and chatting with some Second Life friends while exploring, and that became a raison d'etre for a little while. Today the reason is to see everybody's creative new hair! I'm looking forward to seeing what my fellow fashion authors are writing about today.

This moment of introspection is brought to you by sleeping in and a babysitter. By the way, aren't we pretty?

Fishers of suits

Rosemary, formerly of Oh! What a neat...boutique, and formerly of ROSEMAR, is now of M&R Cupcake -- but she's still kicking skin butt. This line is the Plush line, and it feels plush. The makeup is soft and melting and dramatic around the eyes, and yet makes me feel elegant and understated rather than garish. Join the group, everyone -- it's called I <3 M&R Cupcakes! There's a fee, but the skin specials are so very worthwhile.

The skins below are only a few of the many makeups and skin tones. Why yes, that is a very small tree that I'm holding. Pardon a short post, but I'm busy fishing!

Truffle-hunting squirrel?

I'm gonna own this shirt IRL too!

I'm having one of those mornings where everything seems just a little too bright and overwhelming, and I don't even have a hangover to show for it! I think it's the excitement in the air from the undergrads all back. Not only that, but Fall sure is football season. The marching band's been running band camp in the intramural fields across the way, and my daughter and I walked over to see them. "Mommy, look at the cheerleaders! I'm gonna be Barbie-cheerleader when I grow up." I shot her a look. "-Pirate. Barbie-cheerleader-pirate," she amended hastily.

You creative people in Second Life just don't stop! I woke up this morning to find a ton of glorious new things. Siddean Munroe made great chunky Mary Janes (and I was just thinking I needed another type to add to my collection), katat0nik made a cute little frock with cake fabric. Of course I've got the orange one -- I saw Phire in the purple earlier today -- happy birthday, Phire! Violet Voltaire made a set of cupcake jewelry that is a perfect match to the dress, and last (but not least), hyasynth made a t-shirt based on her own real-life t-shirt design! Fair warning, even though my avatar is wearing it today, when the t-shirt arrives you get to look at my fearsome IRL mug when I post in the actual shirt! (You can go stare at it here!)

I'm huddling in my chair today hoping that life sorts itself out shortly.

Conservative and teacherly

While my avatar went a-wandering the fair streets of Axis Mundi, my SL self taught my first class of the semester this morning. I'm TAing in a one-year intensive curriculum that turns English majors into high school English teachers, and I think my school's program does a mighty fine job.

One of the amusing parts of the first day was "how to dress for the classroom." It was demonstrated by a chesty, leggy woman who dressed in very conservative slacks and a high-buttoned shirt. She told the class her dressing technique, which involved contorting in front of the mirror to make sure that no undergarments, skin or tattoos emerge when doing teacherly things like writing on the blackboard or squatting by a desk.

I thought the entire conversation was amusing considering my not-very-hidden Second Life avatar's fixation with clothing. IRL me wore a conservative knee-length black dress from Target today, so SL me had to do the complete opposite, just to express myself. Here I am in brand new boots from First Flower, the Valerian -- which now come in violet, blue, and red. I really need these boots for teaching -- although they might steal the show!

Neko on a cool Caledon roof

Good thing I shaved my pits, eh?

It's rare that I write about an outfit that is (nearly) all made by one designer, from skin to neko parts to tattoos to frock to boots, and that's what I'm doing tonight with this very excellent cat outfit (complete with iron muzzle) from Ghanima Uriza of Blue Blood. We know her well at SL Free*Style because of her lovely generosity (she's often got free gothic dresses for the group) and now she's got an entire wall devote to cat-kind.

Ghanima's sculpties are getting better and better. The mask especially is vastly creative. I'm sure there are others like it IRL or in SL (and I'm sure you guys will tell me about them), but this one is new to me and I adore it. It goes so well with the flirty tutu and lashing kitty tail!

I'm photographing on the rooftop of someone's castle in Caledon Moors, continuing my SL wanderlust. Kitties like rooftops, right? This one especially likes the view of the sunset. -- By the way, the frequency of my posts are about to go downhill with the start of the semester, which is why I'm trying to get a few done in advance !

Free loli frock from the Creator's Pavilion sale

There's a sale at Creator's Pavilion this weekend. I found out about it from Sakuradawn, and hopped over to snag the loot. I stumbled upon an adorable dress to wear, opened up Fashion Planet, and discovered that Dakota had totally snitched my dress! Bitch! Just kidding, you look awesome. Luckily I also had a free dress to put on, and it's such a cute deal for the price (free!) that I felt it was worth sharing. Anyway, as you can see, there are a number of good reasons to go to the fair!

And guess what?! You get a double-dose of me this week. The women of Malicious Style are kind enough to host a series of posts based upon the poem "Monday's Child." You can see our photos and styles over here!

Minajunk skin fair skins

Sakuradawn Lei made an amazing post about the Minajunk Harajukubox skin fair skins over here! Everyone go see how cute she is nekkid! And then run, not walk, to get the limited edition Neko skin (shown above) because it is going away as of today, Sunday the 17th 12pm SLT! That gives you about three hours from this post !!

That being said, I absolutely had to play with them too. I've got on the neko skin today and found that it looks amazing with one of my CSR stamp card finds, Electro Kitty's Black Neko Ninja set. I am undecided about letting my virtual boobs hang out below the level of my shirt, however, I understand that it is part of the neko look and am dealing with it. I love the boots and gloves on this set! They glow a little, for that radioactive Shadowrun effect. Today I photographed at the lovely MiaSofia build in Hwang.
