Two more days of summer break

Ahh, it's me again. I'm in ur feed, spamming u with posts. Two items made posting again a complete necessity -- first, the Harajukubox skin fair and this amazing limited edition (for the fair) skin from SINdecade. It's called The Day After Harajuku, and I was immediately struck by the craquelure, as if I'd just stepped out of an antique Dutch oil painting. This is one of many awesome LE skins sold at the fair, and I really wish I had the L for more (but I don't).

Second, and not least, ~silentsparrow~ released this gorgeous bloody suit, the Dominion. It comes in eight colors, including this one in this perfect shade of rust. I don't feel bad about stealing everyone's thunder and posting about this suit because it comes in so many variations. Five different jackets, plus two shirts -- you can modify this to suit your fancy. Plus the colors! hyasynth was wearing hers with the tattoo from Coppelia, but it'll also work with roughed-up skins (like this one) or any sort of tattoo you'd want. Or you can primly button to your neck and tie yourself up with the jabot like a finely brocaded present.

Okay, Allegory, I wanna see you post about this in green.

Not sari at all

Two neat things. The first is something you've seen before, the glorious new sari from House of Zaara. It comes with many options for shirt, undershirt and jacket layers, and allows you to wear the skirt part as either pants and a prim, or skirt with a prim. The drape comes in large (when it's cold you can let it slip down your arm) and skinny (just on the shoulder). Ahh, it's bloody gorgeous, and it's perfectly made.

The second neat thing: Hal*Hina has made four 300L gift bags that contain a skin, hair, shape, eyes an outfit, and a bag! This was written about earlier by Beanie, so of course I had to go get an insanely cheap skin or two. I really like Hal*Hina's skins, and 300L each (not even counting the rest of the stuff) was impossible to pass up. I especially like the way this skin enables me to look vaguely Asian while not being over-the-top; adventures in my Asian identity!

I'm wearing my Sari in Chaiwallah's Tea & Curry Shop in Caledon Mayfair. This is a nostalgic location for me -- one of the first places that I encountered during my explorations of Caledon. I stumbled in and smiled -- what is an Empire without a curry room, after all? Reminded me that the people who make Second Life have an interest in anachronistic authenticity, and a sense of humor.

Seeds of light

This new release outfit from Studio Sidhe & Moonshine Designs (named Shaylee) reminds me of psychedelic art. It was pretty to wear, pretty to photograph, and extra-pretty to cobble together into whatever you call this. Blog-art? I enjoyed playing with this outfit very much.

I thought about the Dead when I put this on. In fact, here's a little Dead to take you through the night:

The thousand stories have
come round to one again
Arabian Night
our gods pursue their fight
What fatal flowers of
darkness spring from
seeds of light...

Yes, I'm wearing this too!

O hai. Don't mind me, I'm practicing my photography. I'm trying my damnedest to work on depth of field today. Once again I'm photographing around my home, and I don't mean to look like EmoNekoAch, but I totally do. Darned mood lighting.

I've got on new hair by Philotic Energy that absolutely screamed "neko" -- perhaps the cute little dangly shoulder bit was what did it -- so I stuck on my fabulous Halloween ears from Hybrid. I'm also in a glowing top by DE Designs that I wanted as soon as I saw the other people writing about it on the feed! Hee. (Tough! I'm wearing it too!)

On a sad note, it looks like Beanie is no longer writing about freebies because some people were rude to Japanese designers (she wrote about it here). I love Beanie's blog and philosophy, and I am deeply upset that people took advantage of her kindness as well as the designers. Let's all respect each other, or I'm'a get out my riding crop. Okay? Okay.

On a plus note, SL is still an awesome haven, especially now that my little southern town is filling with students. I can smell the terror of the freshmen, and it fills my teacherly soul with BLOODLUST. Gimmee some fresh MEAT! Just kidding. :D Have wonderful Second Days!

SRS post of SRSness

A few comments lately have made me ponder a blogging philosophy. In these photos I've taken you out of the hermeneutic photo box and into my home -- contextualizing myself in a way so that I can talk about what goes on behind the scenes when I write.

Big SRS Philosophy (not that I can take myself that SRSly):

I do not promise to show you guys anything new. You've probably seen it all before! The purpose of this writing space is to wear stuff and then write around it, especially to see where the clothing takes my mind. The interesting part of fashion writing for me is the synecdoche, the connections that the clothing inspires. It isn't just to show an outfit (other people do new releases), or even promise that I've given you something new. It's to play pretend with you guys with our imaginary dollies.

Sound good? Yay. Now I'm off to entertain my kid!

Dressing in Draconic, post 5

I felt like a beloved dolly today in this opulent dress, Draconic's Her Eulogy. She released it last month for the Dolls in the Attic show, and I am thwapping myself that I've only now gotten to put it on. It comes with a cape that I couldn't squish into my Doll Holder (courtesy of All Dolled uP), and has a darkly elegant bodice that matches the belling formality of the skirt.

I'm happy to be photographing in one of Azazeal's builds, October Rust's House of Lenore. Az came up with this location when I said, "OMG - quick - find me somewhere pretty and Victorian to photo." I think it worked quite well! I look like a dolly in a glass bell, waiting for someone to come and wind her up. Also notable are my boots, new from First Flower. Mmmm, black boots with stuff on them! They look so dangerously elegant.

Draconic week has been fun! Hmmm...what next...

So damned cool

I'm sorry if everyone has seen it before, but this Prada video is the coolest thing on earth. It reminds me that you amazing designers in Second Life are capable of making this our reality. In the words of Captain Picard, Make it so! Please.

More photos of this neat build & outfit in my flickr stream

Quite a while ago Draconic Kiss made this Alice outfit out of vinyl. I own two outfits from Drac's sexxeh shop -- one is a bodysuit made entirely out of white latex, and the other is this. The sheen of the vinyl adds a dangerous edge to the sweet blue of the frock, adorned with a poof of a bow and Drac's usual inimitable prim skirts.

I've added two free items to this outfit! One is the lolita must-have freebie from Honey Kitty, a bow headband with color changing script that matches a set of skirts; the other is the free choker from Rebel-X.

What is that in the background? An amazing build from Saiyge Lotus at Balderdash -- the broken clockworks. If you can believe it, all of those broken clocks (and four sitting animations) are on sale for peanuts. I wish I had a place in my sky studio to put such a thing! I'm short on poetry this morning because the child is demanding "dessert" after her cheerios. Hmmm. Off to school with her, and off to finish a paper with me. Have wonderful days!

Dressing in Draconic, post 3

I love this dress. It's the Tell-Tale Heart Dress from Draconic (third post of five about the dark designer!), and it has a fabulous cage crinoline dangling from a fluffy prim ruffle. Atop this is new hair from Pudge (the Organic flower beast), and I'm wearing it in barbie blond because I have a sekrit fetish for how blonds look in black. I used to perv so hard on Michami when she'd put together a black ensemble! *cough* anyway...

I chatted with Allegory the other day about how designers often have the same ideas at the same time. Allegory, for instance, designed a great caged crinoline dress (very different from this one), and I bet other designers have thought about making caged crinolines too. Especially if you are in the same genre (like Allegory and hyasynth and Draconic and katat0nik), I'd imagine that it sometimes gets difficult to politely give each other room to work while yet pursuing your own (sometimes similar) ideas.

Ideas overlap! That's one thought that crosses my mind whenever I ponder designing. There are a finite number of new ideas in the Second World, especially because there are a finite number in the First one. How do designers cope with this? I was impressed by Plush's post from earlier today in which she says, even though this other designer and I have basically the same shirt, I'm going to encourage competition and not snark at her!

I'm glad that as a clothes-horse and unprofessional blogging dilettante I don't have to choose.

Draconic Kiss's Cutie Bags in Wuffles, BunBun, ChuChu and Meowzer

It's lovely when I pick a theme for five posts (like Draconic Kiss clothing) and the woman releases something new. In this case, she attacked my cute kink with these calico animal bags. Damn. They come with a color-changing script, in four animal types, and now they are MINE.

They suit Draconic's suits better than her prim skirts (because I am short, the skirt eats the bag), so I am wearing her Engineer costume. Ah, I love how this makes me look. The pants have pinstriping, and there are two layers of shirt beneath the jacket, a vest layer and a white button-down undershirt with jabot. Elegant like Sherlock Holmes!

Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go put on underpants and look for clams!

Dressing in Draconic, post 1

Draconic Kiss does some of the nicest lolita looks in Second Life. The prim skirts are frothy concoctions that float above one's legs, painstakingly attached beneath tight, saucy bodices. One of my first purchases in Second Life was a pirate outfit from Draconic, and I remember thinking that my avatar looked incredibly awesome in her floating split skirt at the helm of her airship. For the next five days, I'm going to be writing about Draconic's outfits because they deserve love!

This dress in particular was released about a month ago, and I absolutely adore the corseted neck, the keyhole shirt, the plaid schoolgirl-gone-decadent skirt. This is something a dark schoolmaster would order his students to wear for formal tea! Mm, I think I'll go write some Rozen Maiden fanfiction...

Furry legs and all

Kellie Iwish of Elate! made adorable little frocks recently, cleanly executed and perfect for showing off one's hooves. They come in four dark-gem colors with a corset and skirt and modesty pants, and my faun is all ready for a party in this getup! I especially like the swing of the skirt -- your virtual body won't emerge through the prims when you walk!

I ponder that the best thing about being a faun is -- no virtual nair! Apologies for shortchanging the verbiage today, I'm getting ready for a play date for my child, which means that the normal cheerful squalor that we live in has to be mucked out. Aren't play dates strange things? I always feel like it's harder to 'date' another family than it is to collect friends as a young single person. You can't just mesh one on one, many personalities have to jive. Or maybe we need the village paradigm like Hillary says...

Have good Sundays!
