Orange we smart

Boi Ach and guest-babe Elusyve Jewell, united by a common love

Have you guys ever listened to Ken Nordine's album Colors? My husband played it for me once and I was hooked. He's got a song about Orange, and I'm damned if I can find any of the lyrics online. But if I could, they'd be all about who Orange is...a thirsty color, happy and cheerful and the type to brighten anyone's day. Unless Orange comes in Sepia, Orange's melancholy shade... Okay. Ken Nordine did it better than I can, but the sentiment is there: Orange is a synaesthete's delight, gold or the sun or a melting creamsickle or the faded print of an old photograph...

Lucky for me Elusyve quite agrees, and here we are posing in our orange garb. I put on my boy avatar just for her, and together we are formidably orange! Totally the new black! You'll see this post in stereo today. Elusyve is also writing about it (post here), because I find it fascinating when the same event is written from two different perspectives...

Chicanery...your brain frightens me sometimes 8D

Today, I pestered Sakuradawn until she explained how the Creators Stamp Rally (CSR) event worked. She directed me to this very important website, and I finally got it!

First you buy things with CSR stamp cards inside of them. The more stamp cards you get, the more neat toys you can redeem them for. I collected TEN. For a photograph of how silly I looked getting my stamp cards stamped, observe.

Second, you attach all of your CSR stamp cards (as I did in the photo), and you go to each of the TWENTY stores participating. The slurls are all posted in a neat little grid on the CSR website, so that you don't have to flail. Warning: the first store, Petite Prince, has a broken one; its stamp machine is at the main exhibit hall. Also, don't use the normal BettiePage store slurl, use the one at this website. Touch the stamp machine from all 20 stores, and your cards will fill up with cute stamps!

Third, go to the main gift pavilion and get your COOL STUFF. Gogolita posted about some of the neat stuff, and so did Noam. Then follow the directions at the gift pavilion to redeem the cards for your LIMITED EDITION ITEMS -- one card per item! Yes. I'm gushing. Not apologizing either. There are twenty gifts in all, and I've only shown a few here. Go to the website to see all of 'em!

It took me about 1.5 hours to visit all 20 stores and find the stamp machines and redeem my gifts, but it was 1.5 hours well spent -- because not only are all the gifts awesome, all of the stores are too.

Find out all about the CSR stamp card thingie here! -- These are only a small selection of the things offered. For more, go to the website and check out all the gifts!

Free free, set them free

My whole outfit cost 0L!

I've been hanging out with a new SLer lately, an old pal of mine. Therefore, I've spent the past few days in awesome places for free and cheap stuff -- for example, Savoir Hair's headquarters, SL Free*Style's store, and FabFree...

I've also spent my fair share of time dragging my pal around to all of the awesome Japanese sims, because we all know they've got the best value for the linden. For example, Beanie posted today about wonderful free shoes, and I got the Engineer boots (below). On the same sim is an edge grafica location, and lo, all the free goff frocks that one could desire, including this one that comes with a delectable hat.

I'll be back in pricey attire shortly, but today I think I'll slum elegantly in this look.

Free boots!

***Skin: FabFree Red Goth Skin
***Boots: atuzoko free boots, engineer
***Dress: edge grafica / 14 mourning dress with hat, free
***Hair: Ravenwear retroesque firey red from Savoir Hair

Much like everybody else, I love TorridWear's new umbrella AO! That's the point of this post, aside from yet more photoshop practice!

AnaLu was kind enough to post the following hints in my blog yesterday:

I take my pics at 3200×2400 in a white backdrop (or black, depending on the outfit) inside the Photoshpere. In PhotoShop, I use the magic wand to past them to a white background and remove all the white (or black) in them. After composing the pic, I use as backdrop a gradient or a pattern. After flatten layers, I duplicated the layers, use gaussian blur and overlay of soft light. Another method to lighten the pics is using the exposure in the adjustment layers. I try not to change the original picture. I want people to see the outfits exactly how they are. I will make a tutorial one of these days.

Isn't Ana completely gracious, to share her secrets and make sure that we all look our best? I've found this in general about Second Life -- creators are always insanely generous with their time and talent. I guess we're all co-constructing this strange little reality. We're all on the cyberboat together, floating off into the unknown... Which means that it's time for some Tennyson, right? I was thinking the same:

Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.

Paean to AnaLu

Hee hee hee. Here's my paean to AnaLu, and it's all Nissa's fault. She posted earlier about getting photoshop tips from Ana, and I had to go back and staaaare my way through Ana's blog. Crisp clean images with dropshadow behind the figure and a gradient background -- easy poses that highlight the outfit -- good lighting...I'm sure I'm missing something, but I'll keep trying. Thanks for being inspirational, you two.

I'm wearing a frock from one of amerie's Naughty's new releases, topped by the triceratops-like watermelon tourmaline horns and unicorn spike from Something Different. Happy birthday, Fine Delight, and thanks for making these really unique horns! The other lovely part of the outfit is from the ever-creative Bliensen + MaiTai, the Fragile Flowers jewelry. They were so pretty I had to stick on MiaSnow's drow skin to properly highlight the pale delicacy of the flowers.

Anyway. Please to enjoy my photoshopping0rz. I'll probably go back to the much simpler naturalistic photography tomorrow, but it's always fun to mess around.

Tee hee, dunno how I caught such a silly expression on my face.

***Tail: Queen Titania's Court faun in fire
***Hair: Calico Ingmann Creations Coronis in Sterling Ivory
***Skin: MiaSnow *mia* Steel Starlet skin 4
***Dress: amerie's Naughty *aN* Girl's Mind
***Jewelry: Bliensen + MaiTai Fragile Flowers necklace, bracelet and earrings
***Horns: Something Different by Fine Delight Watermelon Tourmaline Horns and unicorn horn (so that I can look like a triceratops)

Practice, practice, practice

Hello! I'm taking a day to work on my photoshop skillz after being inspired by Nissa Nightfire's post about AnaLu! Drop shadow really does make an image pop, doesn't it. Also, Nissa used a gradient background (although I didn't in this photo here). I'm in one of my hanging-around-the-house outfits, ~silentsparrow's~ Why We Quit the Forest in sea. Dolly key by Lazy Places...

Most of my brain is hanging out in Bollywood. I'm currently obsessed with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (Straight from the Heart), and the awesome music video from it called Nimbooda. Mm, go watch the sexxeh that is Aishwarya Rai. Maybe I'll go find a sari tomorrow!

Deer in hunter's clothing

Sakuradawn Lei and I are deering around

Okay, guys. Forgive my photoshopping skillz -- this is one of those moments where you need to pat me on the head and say "bless your heart" like we do in the South. I'm learning? Look, I maded a whole background out of some photographs I took. I was trying for a Unicorn Tapestry look. *cough* Anyway.

It's a wonderful day for me when katat0nik and hyasynth both release outfits, and not just outfits but ones with Limited Editions. hy released her outfit (the Devana) yesterday, and just put the suit that I'm wearing (the Cygne) back in her shop today -- it had been living at Rezzables for the Black Swan event. katat0nik's new Alice dress came out earlier today (I posted about it here, with a Limited Edition also in the shop).

I've watched hyasynth tease us about her Limited Edition version of the Devana for a week now (there's an ORANGE ONE!), and finally pictures of the outfits (and a few stray bunnehs) are up in the ~silentsparrow~ shop!

Watch out for the fabric on Devana and Cygne. It sucks you in. You begin to stare at the pattern and get closer and closer and watch the soft shading flex and fade and then you realize that you're totally doing fractal meditation. The names are reminiscent of mythos -- Devana is another iteration of Diana. Oh the irony, that Sakuradawn's deer is wearing this dress! (Actually, I only just thought about the irony now. Kinda funny :D). Cygne, of course, means swan... Beware of stray Zeuses while suited up in Cygne, okay? The slim legs and flirtatious coattail would turn many an effete Caledonian's head.

As I said. There's some good huntin' in my small part of Second Life today.

On Miss Sakuradawn Lei:

Said Alice to herself

More photos in my Flickr account...

Have you seen Jan Svankmajer's Alice? The cinematography and feel (forgotten, decayed Victoriana) reminds me of the video style that became the vogue for artists like Nine Inch Nails. It also reminds me of Kurotsubaki's sim (I had to go back once I realized that my photo settings were unflattering), and the sweet lost innocence of this dress. It's katat0nik's new Alice dress, and the ironic twist lies in the old book illustrations edging the fabric border; dark and almost grotesque imagery in such a lovely frock. (I am not surprised by this macabre secret in the fabric, however. I also hear rumor that there will be a limited edition version of the dress that is decayed and bloody...)

Thank you, Mourna Biziou, for posting about those great SiniStyle boots; as you can see I picked up a copy too.

[Small aside, just in case you were wondering: I've only been in SL for a year. I never figure that I've discovered something new! In fact, I should use the phrase that the inimitable Michami used, "New -- to me," just in case you might imagine that I think I've discovered a brand new store, or striped socks, or wearing pants -- honestly, I never think so. :D ]

Too cute for grad school work

My fingers are so excited to write about this that I'm not sure what to type first! First, I guess, is that everyone should go play at this art gallery, Borrow Your Eyes, in Koenji. It's got wonderful art and adorable poseballs -- here I am playing with a few.

The store seemed to provide a nice counterpoint to my outfit, which was built around a new skirt and socks from amerie's Naughty, and new shoesies from Lazy Places. When looking fabulously cute, it is imperative to head to a Japanese build for photographs!

...Ever have one of those days where you realize that Second Life has reset your photography defaults? Yeah, that happened to me with today's earlier post. Argh, I say. Sorry about the choppy pixel bits.

hyasynth was kind enough to style me today. It's really a cyberpunk way to play Barbies, isn't it? Except that I'm totally Fruits Barbie.

***Shoes: Lazy Places [LP] Cute Fruits Peach Flats

Curiosity killed the kitty

The Kurotsubaki sim has been looking beautiful of late. It was a carnival until a few days ago; now it is Sleepy Hollow or perhaps a ramshackled Victorian house out of Lemony Snickett. I took a wander around the grounds, soaking in the haunted fey feel.

I especially loved a moment when I wandered to the second floor of the store and realized that there was a bubbling pool and a vista -- a vision of the super-tall macabre bunny doll that you couldn't get from ground level. That's urban planning, that is, and I'm totally going to make it my secret tete-a-tete spot.

Has someone invented a way to freeze time, yet? I need it.

For the longest time I had no idea what Ruthed meant

O noes! I've been Ruthed! Honestly, Ruth isn't a bad looking girl. I quite admire those broad shoulders, perfect for tattoos and corsets!

I took up the Ruth Challenge that everyone's been doing. I call it "Group Gift Gothic Ruth." I'm wearing Tuli's group gift gothic skin, Kalico Kitty's freebie neko ears, ~silentsparrow's~ Jabberwocky sim opening corset freebie, Perturb/Ation store opening necklace, a skirt from a Thimbles' group gift dress, Schadenfreude Lloyd sim opening bangle gift, group gift tattoos from EtchD, and...

Shhh, Miss Ruth has a tiny foot size issue. We don't wanna make her feel bad, right? But the only free shoes I could find that fit her were Schadenfreude's Lloyd freebie, the Elephant Stompers...The hair is not free. It's Kin's Neko, and I found that splurging a little on hair really made Ruth feel like me.

Okay, now you guys do it!

Lonely as a cloud

Beatrix Hienrichs, left, is in an outfit by GRAVES leather/latex/metal.

I spotted Beatrix Hienrichs at MiaSnow's shop today and absolutely had to photo with her. "You two look straight out of an anime," someone observed. We did, like we were from some kind of Space Lolita Magical Girl crossover. Stalking lucky chairs is going to be my new hobby, I swear, considering the neat, photogenic people I run into!

I also saw MiaSnow there, and liked her creative ensemble (below): little knickers, a bikini top, and a vaguely zombie-esque aesthetic. Mia's AO added to the effect -- I swear she totally ambled :D. Then, this morning, katat0nik was playing with her new lucky fortune teller chair and I went over to join her. Our outfits matched -- kat is in a teasing little preview of her next dress, and had the same DPyumyum gothly dolly that I do.

It's amazing. Usually I move restlessly from outfit to outfit throughout the day, never settling upon one thing for very long, but I was so distracted by Second Life that I actually left the same clothes on OVERNIGHT. Granted I was asleep for at least four hours of it 8D.

MiaSnow at her shop. I love the dalmation skin plus her tattoos

Wait, katat0nik has my dolly too!
