See you after July 21st! The Ach family is heading north to the lakes for some family reunion fun. Be good and support SL economy while I'm gone ♥

Have you guys gone to get the neat items from the Kurotsubaki circus hunt yet? I'm wearing the bracelet and necklace from the hunt!
I'm writing two days of boy-brand-Achariya before I head NORTH! Yep, family reunions to attend, at lake houses with a severe lack of internets. My god, eleven days without the internet. I'm beginning to shake...
I was staring at my folder of boy clothing last night and realized that I just absolutely had nothing to wear. The result was that I dressed up my boy avatar in a maid outfit, tee hee. I figured that I could spare some time to pretend I'm not completely effeminate for today's post. Bonnie & Clyde were instrumental for garbing boy Ach -- I went to Fashion Alley and browsed with great delight. It's nice to find a sim that rains, for one thing!
I also read the fine blogs by Lawless and Dakota regularly, and I suspect that today's look is probably totally derivative of those guys. *snerk* -- just to clear up some rumors (Lawless!), boy Ach isn't partnered to Dakota, as fun as the thought sounds. For one thing, I have a super-weird attitude toward dating in Second Life (omg, I have a RL husband, better not go there), and for another, Mr. Dakota's IRL self is a good decade younger than me, so gets firmly shunted into the little-brother category. *grin*
Anyway. I hope I still look like me, despite the nonexistent penis and the slight flailing about for a male wardrobe. Take care, y'all -- only one more day of me and then you get a BREAK!

This is my last day of writing about Rosemary and Mimi's new line of skins, the Birthday Suits. I've spent five whole days darker than normal, and it's been educational. For one thing, I've noticed that darker skin makes me want to wear brighter clothing; for another, my avatar actually feels kinda healthy. The pale skin is beginning to look as though my avatar does nothing but sit in her dark house all day long playing MMORPGs! *cough*
I'm wearing a dress by Rosemary (from her incarnation as OH! What a neat...boutique). This is one of my favorite little frocks in SL, and I've committed the unpardonable blogging sin of writing about this before -- long, long before, before I knew what it truly was to be a fashion auteur. (Tee hee. Do you sense my irony?) Also, I've written about the necklace before. When I love things, I inflict them upon the dear readers of this blog MANY TIMES.
I confess that I'm going to run back to butt-pale skins now. Or perhaps my sadly neglected boy avatar. Shall I have the next few days in boy avatar? Perhaps I shall...
Also, fair warning, I'm going on vacation for a while! From the 11th to the 21st of July, I'll be moored in RL, far, far away from the internets. I will miss you guys!

Isle of Tranquility is having a special Skybox event in honor of Tanabata, the Star Festival! If you teleport to the sim, there's a sign that shunts you up to the Skybox platform.
I got there and was instantly awash in a soft sea of stars, below my feet, falling around my shoulders -- but that wasn't all. In several large buildings around the sim are creatively made skyboxes. amerie wrote about them here, including photos if you're curious. All the skyboxes are extremely affordable -- the one that I'm photographing in is by Kao, and it's only 200L.

In Japan, it's already July 7th, which means it's 7/7 -- Nana day! (The word for seven is pronounced Nana.) That means that across Japan, fangirls of the Ai Yazawa manga Nana (such as myself) are dressing up in cosplay in honor of the event. hyasynth saw me walking around as Oosaki Nana and I pounced -- "You can be the other Nana, Komatsu Nana!" She laughed at me and then acquiesced, and the two Nanas are together in our little cosplay ♥.
Komatsu Nana (hyasynth Tiramisu) and Oosaki Nana (me)
Cosplay is amazing in Second Life. You can put an outfit together in a few hours (or minutes, if you have a very big inventory like hyasynth). I'm all kinds of happy that I got to cosplay here, because it's my dream to do it sometime IRL. Sadly, as a 35 year old mom and grad student, I'm not young enough to sport that short a skirt, and I have no sewing skills. Virtual cosplay it has to be...
Why do I love Nana? Nana comes in manga form (sold nowadays in translation at an Amazon.com near you), as well as anime and live-action Japanese drama. It tells the soap-opera tale of two roommates in Tokyo, both named Nana. One of them wants to make it as the lead singer of a band, and the other one wants to find love... Even though their lives aren't perfect, their best friendship is the thread that holds the story together.
Ai Yazawa, the mangaka (manga author), excels at bittersweet love stories that have the hard edge of reality as well as the sweet shimmer of love...Paradise Kiss has a short (five volume) story arc that the people of the fashion feed would probably enjoy greatly, because it's about a boy in fashion school who is attempting to start his own line...
Thanks again to hyasynth for posing with me, and for taking and manipulating these awesome photos of our day's cosplay.

Ahh, let's talk ethnicity for a moment. Using darker skins, I've tried to wear stuff that I'd wear normally and not exoticize an ethnicity that isn't my own. Despite that, whenever I put on darker skin, I feel as if it's more "dressed" than a pale skin would be. That leads me to wear less than normal...and then to worry about whether I'm assuming a different personality when I put on a different skin. Am I dressing less modestly just because the skin is dark? Troublesome thought.
YES I think about this too much. 8D
Anyway, with all due respect to people with this skin tone, I think it looks GREAT in very little. That's why my outfit today is from Lavish Style, a shop that specializes in making very little look pretty.
Minajunk gave away a 1L glass slipper this morning. Isn't it cute? In all white, lying on this glass slipper, I feel as though my avatar is subverting traditional fairy tales. No skin white as snow here, or lips red as blood. Still, she's donning Cinderella's white, and the prince is surely in for a surprise.
