Tres beau

I feel unbelievably sexy today, and that's because I look like an Edwardian crossdresser. Move over, Vita Sackville-West! There's a new gentle-lady in town! I'm not entirely sure why Edwardian crossdressers are so damned sexy, but I'm not the only one who thinks so. The Japanese have a whole brand of style named after this fashion (oujisama, or prince, style), and girls and boys alike parade about Harajuku in their finest Little Lord Fauntleroy suits. For people who love elegant women in boy's attire, I might point you to the adorable anime/manga Ouran High School Host Club.

Yes, I'm still blue, and here I'm sporting many different hats! Okay, I'm lying. I'm only wearing one hat, but the color-changing hud on the hat, rim, and arcane dangles were too fun not to play with. It's so very Schadenfreude to give the most options possible for every item of attire, and I'm going to be insidious here by wondering out-loud why we can't change the charms too. JUST KIDDING, ALLEGORY! Please don't give yourself a migraine scripting a charm-changing version, this one is lovely by itself! :D

Now that I feel like a stinker, I'd like to share that I'm very, very cranky today (*cough* PMS *cough*), but the blue skin really helps. I'm rapidly running out of different blue skins to show you. Two more and I have to be normal colored again! Or hrm, perhaps I'll go red...

***Outfit: ~silentsparrow~ sylvan in sea (14 pieces including a tunic, shirt and undershirt, belleh cover, boot-cut pants and normal pants, and men and women's sizes of cuff and collar prims, collar also includes a non-jabot version for those warm days)

Bathing bluety

Rosemary Galbraith is generosity itself. She's given a free lime-colored swimsuit to her update group, complete with a hat. Here, I am not wearing it, because lime doesn't really go with my current complexion. I'm wearing the same suit in black with it's matching hat, and I quite love it. Rosemary's clothing is fabulous for it's fabric texture, and she puts things together quite carefully.

"I restrained myself with this suit," Rosemary said gleefully. "I was so going to do some bum-shading."

She didn't, but honestly, look at that (Creamy's word) buttage. *cough*

MiaSnow's skin answers my "what does a goth wear to the beach?" question quite well: you don't have to worry about skin pigment if you're blue.

Something borrowed, something blue

What to wear to Summer weddings in SL? Something blue and floral. Okay, I'm blue and my dress is floral, which is close enough...

I love the construction of Sidean's SLink dress. The top is a prim, which means that our virtual boobs have nice strong support against the gravity slide-bar. The booties and armwarmers have been blogged on the fashion feed before -- props to those that own these, they're the fluffiest, girliest accessories ever.

Despite being so pretty and blue I'm in a rotten mood this morning -- I'm trapped at a cafe listening to three middle-aged women gossip self-righteously about God. I'm not kidding, they call themselves Christians, and take their religion as a mandate to tear into anyone who isn't, including moms who decide to work instead of staying at home with their children. Clearly not what God wants.

Don't get me wrong -- I love religion, and respect Christianity deeply (as a Unitarian, I give Christianity props for trying to make people behave well for millennia). You're giving your religion a bad name, women! Didn't Jesus say to be tolerant and hang out with the whores and robbers?

My husband recommended that I pretend to call someone about Wiccan Lesbian nuptials just to remind these women that the world is larger than their church...Anyway, my revenge is to write about them in this blog, of course.

A happy blue

Photo of Elate! new release dress dance happening by Nivaya Barbosa

There I was all ready to write about something completely different when I got a notice from the SL Free*Style group. Free cute little hat! said the notice, and I finished photographing for this post and hopped right over, because I'm a complete hat...maven. What should I encounter but a bunch of women shaking their tail-feathers in the cutest flapper dresses this side of Calvin Coolidge's White House? One of those women is a pal of mine, Nivaya Barbosa, and she introduced me to Kellie Iwish, the designer for Elate. The dress looks adorable on all sorts of shapes, and moves perfectly.

Soon I too was dancing. I love the excitement that designers feel when they release something they've poured over, and hand it over to people to enjoy. There's a thrill, I'd imagine, in seeing your creativity adorn other people, and that rush must be what designers live for.

Here I am in Elate's Felicity dress in white and her freebie tophat

Anyway. Here is my original post, about two vivid things: MiaSnow's new skin, BLU BEAUTY, and Juicy's new slingback pumps. Gorgeous said, "Are you sure these are your kind of thing? They're a little bright." They totally are -- I simply had to wait for something just as vivid to wear with them. When Ashia Tomsen posted about Rapis, I went -- yatta! Affordable and adorable! And look, a cute bag too, only 20L!

The skin is as perfectly shaded as the rest of MiaSnow's skins, which means that it's a Srs blue skin, not "I think I'll slap blue on this PDF." ...So I think I'll be blue for a while...

Bloggers get the best chicks

Boi Ach & Violet Voltaire

Once upon a time when Ach was young, I danced ballet. I've mentioned in this blog that I danced for a good eighteen years, but sadly mostly boy parts. Whilst dancing the boy parts for my sleepy little town's ballet school, I realized that in essence, boys in ballet are big ol' moving props.

Classical ballet seems like an entirely feminine world. It's pink and fluffy and pretty, and everyone's super flexible and super skinny. Don't be mistaken, however. In this world, women call the shots. Men in pas de deux are useful because they can make women look good. Swan Lake comes to mind, or Sleeping Beauty, or anything in which the male mainly acts as a foil to enable the woman to leap higher, spin longer, or look effortless while bounding across the stage.

Men in ballet are also useful because they are the object of a certain female myth of desire. In ancient times, women became themselves when they took on the occupation of wife and mother. Men were their employers, more or less, hiring them on the wedding day. Women won the hiring game if they got a rich and powerful one -- love and looks were a nice bonus.

Nowadays, obviously women get to choose whether or not they buy into this whole myth, but ballet speaks of the ancient beauty of winning the marriage game -- because there is a certain beauty in the strange old tales, whether we're feminist or not.

*cough* What the heck was my point? Oh yes. Sometimes, men are awesome accessories.

This shot is for Dakota, who is the king/queen of wearing stuff that looks just fine in boy or girl shape

Kani in crimson

My daughter is sick, so my earlier plans to foist her off onto the grandfather and watch Indiana Jones has fallen through. We've had a quiet day in the house, mostly playing with things on and offline (she loves dressing her pink and purple pupe almost as much as her mommy loves dressing SL avatars).

Do you think that femininity is nature or nurture? I'd go with all nurture, but IRL I'm not an extremely feminine type. Unlike my avatar I'm mostly found in the nerdly outfit of jeans and a t-shirt, and haven't put on makeup in months. My daughter pretends that chapstick is lipstick and chastises me when I wipe it off for purposes of lunch and dinner. "Mommy! Now I have to put it back on!"

Here, I'm wearing a cute outfit from Ghanima Uriza of Blue Blood. It's her trademark shade of crimson, and goes so well with the newest Elegance Hat. Perfect outfit to go hang out at Lico Lico mall!

***Avatar: Lost Furest Kani splotchy female - white and black
***Hat: Elegance Hats chloe black red cocktail hat
***Hair: Kin
***Necklace: -EARTHTONES- Vintage Love Letter Necklace Silver (free if you purchase 100L worth of items from Earthtones)

I love big belts and I cannot lie

**DP**yumyum belt and bangle set D-brown

This post is about belts. I noticed when I got to Second Life that there were some fine belts hanging around waists, most notably neko waists. I love the clutter of them, the way in which they carry everything you might need for a virtual day within an easy hand-reach. Far beyond tourist belt pouches, these are made for action! You can do stuff like fling marbles, paint, exhibit your necrophilic side, or simply be fashionable.

It's a good thing that we don't feel any virtual weight, eh? I'd get a backache from some of these, but my avatar is tough! I am very sad that belts usually detach prim skirts, because belts and skirts are pretty. I am philosophical, however. Belts look great with a sleek pants set.

Notice the shrug? It's from the 50% off gift card sale at PixelDolls (ending tonight at midnight SLT). I generally let Hethr Engle write about PixelDolls because she owns the whole store, but it's difficult not to let some of these cute pieces slip into the outfit. The rest of the outfit is from Schadenfreude, something I've written about before -- the Revenant outfit in Ghost color. This outfit (combining the suit and dress sets) is insanely flexible!

In a small real life note, I'm heading to see the new Indiana Jones movie today, and I haven't been so excited since Temple of Doom! I love a good pulp movie, especially one with Harrison Ford's smirking face (he pretty much defines the word 'smirk', doesn't he?). I think I'm gonna go find my avatar a fedora and whip right now...

Dark and lavish

Lavish Style calls to my inner drow in a voice that cannot be ignored. "Put on this outfit and you'll be strong, like Xena the Warrior Princess. The bare bits are completely covered by an invisible forcefield so that sword-wielding foes will have their blades deflected by what looks like bare skin! In this, you could even withstand the evil of the Doomed Ship!"

I purchased it, how could I not? I put on the tattered leathers and marveled at their construction, including the invisible Xena armor (I'm joking about this, in case you weren't sure), and then sallied forth to find adventure.

Doomed Ship reminds me of a perverted version of the Alien movies, complete with lost catgirls. Anyone who might've lost a catgirl, be aware that she might be trapped somewhere in this build. It's another of those twisted roleplaying sims, but unlike Hard Alley you won't encounter a lot of brand new xcite parts.

My drow had a good time, although she had to snarl once or twice to scare away the stray catgirls.

To bellydance, first find a belly

Pipsqueak Fiddlesticks commented in one o' these posts that she'd love for me to wear and write about something with HER shape.

Never one to turn down a challenge, I shot back "Sure!"

Soon Pip sent me a mod copy of her shape. I stuck my face on it and made it proportional, and suddenly I no longer felt like a wisp of a girl. In a second I went from Asian skinny to Nordic full-figured, and now my usual avatar looks far too waif-ish.

Pipsqueak was right (of course) -- it's rough to fit prims to your form if you've got big hips, a bigger booty, and a shape beyond a certain width. This is true IRL too -- I can't tell you how long I searched for the one perfect pair of jeans that wouldn't drag on my feet or give me an attractive muffintop.

Pipsqueak's form is marvelous for a few things, however. Non-skinny avatars can pull off the look of the Victorian era perfectly. In this time, there were treatises made praising the value of being plump. Healthy for the body and soul! Big dresses sometimes eat Ach-avatar, but in this case, the woman definitely wears the clothing. Larger women can also pull off late Victorian hats, because they've got the frame to perfectly accentuate a large hat's picturesque brim, whereas small women can be consumed!

Okay, I was just about to write about a surreal dream I had last night about venus fly traps, without even noticing that my fingers were still moving on the page, so this is probably a sign that I need to go to bed. Night night, fashion feed of SL.

The slap of a feather belt

~silentsparrow~ how we quit the forest outfit

The Ostrich and the Egret
Had a very fine flat to let.
Figurine hutch,
No the place wasn't much,
But they got a Peacock.

His belongings were meager but,
He was pretty, would bring good luck.
They would sing songs all around the piano and
Do the cakewalk.

undershirt and glitchpants layer

He would say what he's gonna do.
He would say what he wanted to.
Ostrich and Egret were filled with regret,
But the rent's well worth him.

He felt things that they'd never felt.
Like the slap of a feather belt.
So still they sit by a fireplace silent.
A chill ran through them.

Ostrich and Egret and Peacock had very small dreams.
Thinking of them just reminds me of calendar scenes.
Nobody's laughing when everyone's weeping, it seems.

Shirt layer (left) and corset with dolly skirt (right)

So that's How We Quit the Forest.
The scene wasn't what it used to be.
The scene is never what it used to be.
So, that's How We Quit the Forest.

The scene wasn't what it used to be.
The scene is never what it used to be.
So, that's How We Quit the Forest.
