SRS post of SRSness

A few comments lately have made me ponder a blogging philosophy. In these photos I've taken you out of the hermeneutic photo box and into my home -- contextualizing myself in a way so that I can talk about what goes on behind the scenes when I write.

Big SRS Philosophy (not that I can take myself that SRSly):

I do not promise to show you guys anything new. You've probably seen it all before! The purpose of this writing space is to wear stuff and then write around it, especially to see where the clothing takes my mind. The interesting part of fashion writing for me is the synecdoche, the connections that the clothing inspires. It isn't just to show an outfit (other people do new releases), or even promise that I've given you something new. It's to play pretend with you guys with our imaginary dollies.

Sound good? Yay. Now I'm off to entertain my kid!

I couldn't have said it better myself!

Van and I operate with a very vintage-oriented fashion philosophy - mixing new with old, wearing freebies and full-priced items - it's never our goal to be the first to show you something, only to share our style and love for fashion.

I remember some kerfluffle last year about blogging the same item repeatedly, and most people agreed that if you have a different take on it (and as different people, with all different aesthetics, we undoubtedly do), there's no reason why you shouldn't share.

We shouldn't be discouraging, we should be supportive.

After all, is this a community or a clique? ;)

I agree! Your blogging style is what inspired me to want to blog in the first place. There are plenty of very good bloggers who showcase the newest things for everyone. But not many who show off older items that should get attention too.

Not only that but many of us bloggers, myself included, can't afford to run out and buy the latest thing as soon as it's released. For those that can or get review copies by all means blog it! But for the rest of us, we should be allowed to show off our unique styles without worrying that we are going against some unwritten bloggers laws.

Candy said it well.. We should be supportive of each other and not discouraging. And if this is in fact a clique and not a community I choose to be with the geeks, dorks, weirdos and outcasts. They like me best <3

Hey, great post. off topic though, what stockings are those? It really completes the outfit, but you didn't mention it.

Candy -- thanks for mentioning all that history (that I dunno cause I'm relatively new). I like your last line especially. Yes -- supportive!

Sakura -- no wai! Really? That makes me sniffle happily :D And I'm with you 100% on the 'not rich' thing.

gods must die -- ohoho, but I did. Those are miasnow's star tattoos -- they come as sock and underpants layers too.

Well I missed the reason for the post, but as you know I've made my whole blog about using what you have over again. Heck I wear some stuff from like 2 years ago at least once a month. I think everyone should just blog what you want and what makes you happy. There are a million different styles in sl you just have to find your own niche.

I think you do an awesome job and I always feel like your blog is half clothing reviews and half Ach's Adventures. I also love your curiosity and how open you are to try new things.

Also those pictures are wonderful. I love the white dress with the colorful makeup/tattoo accents, it's so beautiful!!

Ach, your blog is one of the few I read regularly, not only because you tend to blog stuff that I would have if I had a fashion blog, but also because you do not fit that mould of the "normal" fashion blogger- you have your own philosophy and individuality and it shows. Besides, you know how to write, you're witty, and in-world, you're a great person (and have I mentioned generous?) too.

And you know all about RL as a postgrad ;-)
