Zut alor, what is this?

Day three of all Little Mermaid, all the time, and my daughter came out with this gem:

Mommy. I want to be Barbie when I grow up.

I have a strange take on feminism. I believe that traditionally feminine things are undervalued -- knitting, pretty clothing, being a mom. It's considered unimportant because clearly women should desire to be like men. Women are "liberated" when they're like men, right?

Wrong -- I think women are only truly liberated when men can be like women without any stigma, and that means that an interest in clothing and fashion is NOT lower in value than traditionally male occupations.

Despite this, I winced when Alba decided to become Barbie. We don't keep Barbies in the house, but she must've encountered them at school. I'd much rather have her want to be Delirium from Sandman! She's a little too young for that series, however...

Last night, hyasynth DJed at her sim, and while I was dancing I was taken by the strange urge to wear yellow. I poked through my inventory and found that I had a serious lack of the color -- so I shopped via OnRez and found this shirt from Nyte'N'Day, and these pants from Little Rebel. I do love the derriere on the pants! They make my flat asian-avatar arse look perky!

Yellow and black...made me remember the Queen Bee Another Skin mod that I'd picked up as a store freebie from Fancy Fairy. There are three makeups in the folder with different lips, and all of them have extremely dramatic bee-wing eyes.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I totally wanted to be a spelunker.

I'm with Alba, I wanna be Barbie when I grow up. Mind you I used to 'dye' all my Barbies hair with felt tip pens and draw eyeliner on them and such, and I had a fine collection of dark haired/ethnic ones. Better Barbie than Bratz at least, right? :D

Also for some reason I went on a yallow kick yesterday too. Must be something in the metaair...

boi-oh-boi... I winced when my angel (3yrs) turned out all princess and wanted a Barbie. I'm holding out in the hope that she discovers Morticia, Vampira and all those other dark, mysterious beauties before she hits puberty!
At least she thinks Amethyst-kitty is rather interesting - in a Barbie-dress-up kinda way! lol

I wanted to be an astronaut or an archaeologist-I soon became too short-sighted to even become a pilot (I'm blind as a bat now), became a linguist and minored in Egyptology, so I got at least partly what I wanted... ;-)

My barbie dolls had to suffer, though-I dragged them through the mud, threw them from windows and gave them bad haircuts.....I remember playing "survival in the jungle" with them a lot! And I had a load of toy cars that all had names....I was a weird little girl that mostly looked like a boy anyway-I haven't quite lost the whole tomboy attitude until today, but I mostly wear skirts now. But I have hated pink wit´h a passion and still don't like it.
