A ponder.

The blogger at home, deep in thought

Avoiding my work just now, I had this thought. Second Life is so infinitely modifiable that I wonder where people draw the line when they alter themselves to dress for the day:

What defines your avatar's personal style?

Do you have a signature, something that you always put on that makes your avatar feel like "you"?

My shape.

I agree with you, Tenshi. I also keep my shape the same -- I've tried other shapes and feel strange in them.

Aside from my shape (which is a given), I am most "me" in my Celestial Skins. I do own a gazillion skins, but I feel most "me" in my Vogue skins for sure. Other than that, you'll usually find me in something rather preppy - just like RL.

Yeah. I think I feel most me in /artilleri's/ lily skins. As a blogger, I sometimes wonder if I bore people by wearing some of the same stuff -- but it's kind of an expression of who I am to like certain stuff, ya know?

Oh well, I guess as long as I keep my mind open to new things. ...

I agree that my shape and my C.S. skin are probably what I feel the most "me" in. Most people have one skin that they wear more often than others.
I also have to say blond hair. My avatar has always tried to be a blond even before there was really any good blond hair to wear (yes I have the embarrassingly bad photos to prove it)

I think you do a very good job of always staying you Achariya. I have gotten comments in the past that I don't branch out enough but you know, you can't really express your true style unless you stay true to what *feels* like you. So I say wear what you like and it will be the most rewarding anyway.
The way you blog is very personal so if they weren't interested in you they wouldn't read it anyway. That's just my 2 cents :D
*Also it's late and I rambled a lot sorry...*

Allegory obviously has a lot of certain things she isn't without (shape, skin, green mohawk- to a lesser extent the big platform boots as well). I'll play "dress up" in different hair/skins/shapes occasionally, but that's what it is, dress up, not _her_. However, even so, I'm still now always in eyes by Miriel, although occasionally I'll wear different colours for particular things.

I never change my shape and hardly ever change my skin, but those are the only two constants... even my hair changes colour by the day! (mostly between blonde and brunette)

Those are interesting answers, Quaintly, Allegory, Hethr! There are certain things that are trademarks for a look, aren't there, like being a blond or a... green. Thanks for saying I always look like me, Hethr! You look like you too :D

I agree with most of the comments above. I almost always wear the same shape/skin and my hair is almost always either red/scarlet/crimson,etc or black.

My shape, my skin and my hair typically. The only mixing up of my hair that I will normally do is black/white, black/red and black/blonde combos. Other than that it's 100% black black black.

I think that Dove's big eyes and the bedroom lashes are almost a signature "her" thing too. Lots of avas have the narrow, cat-like eyes and Dove has these big round doe eyes. lol.

As far as style goes, I think that maybe black/white and stripes are signature Dove touches also. I DO change that up from time to time - even throw in whammies as crazy as ...PINK :o But usually it's black or white or red or some combo of all three.

My white hair, and 80% of the time i have this flower in my hair from Artillleri. It changes to a zillion different colors. I really cannot explain my undying love for that thing.

huh. After reading this, I'm thinking that's why I have many alts; each alt has a skin from a different designer and a different style of dressing...

Pigtails! I've always loved wearing them in RL. Whether it be Little House on the Prairie braids or high up piggies. They always add to the quirky personality, cause you know Punky Brewster and Pippi Longstocking were my heros growing up.
Also, as a teenager (and well into my mid-20s) I constantly bleached/fried my hair to get it various shades of manic panic green/purple/red/pink every month. So having different bold colors of hair and piggies is very Me.

I have two main avies.
The first one has violet eyes that were given to her as a gift by a now very well known skin maker when she was new to SL, which she always wears. And her height/shape pretty much never change (though her face does to suit the skin she is in). She has always been an amazon.
The other avie is a kitty, though she has been known to humanise at times, and despite owning way too many other skins, she always goes back to her Nomine Aethyr Latte skin.
Also have a few minor avies that also have their own characters: the "proper" English Lady, the Japanese gamin, the clockwork toy being the main ones of these.
Not sure if there is similarities between the avies (perhaps to some extent the body shape - not height, and face shape as I am not sure you can really move all that far from what is pleasing to you visually that way. More just subtle variations). Which avie I use is very dependant on mood and what I am doing at that time.

Great question! I really had to think on this one because I typically change my look, head to toe, almost everyday. I had a look back at my screenshots and the one thing I noticed was relatively constant was my beloved mouth rings and spikes piercing from Deviant Kitties. Attachments permitting, I almost always wear them... and usually without regards to whatever genre I'm feeling that day. ^^

I think it's fascinating that we all have something that makes us "us", eh? Whether it's a skin, shape, or jewelry, we all have something we hang on to.

Definitely my shape. Even though all of my sets with prim skirts have to be modded before I can wear them. (sigh) I love the Artilleri skin and keep buying more sets. I put on any other skin and it just feels wrong. I rarely change my hair color either--tons of brunette styles! God, does this mean I'm boring? Thanks for asking. Miss you at Wells.

I'm a little behind the times, but this is a good post, so I figured I'd comment.

Like a lot of other posters, the biggest thing for me is also my shape. I made it myself and the only thing I change is the occasional tweak to make my scrawny butt fit into fuller dresses.

I also started wearing Eloh Eliot's SE Another Skin with freckles because it looks a lot like me IRL and I haven't changed. I also like that I can make any changes to it I need and only pay the upload cost.

I also wear brown hair and brown eyes, again like my RL self.
