Miss Kghia Gherardi told me one day that I should really check out the sim creators pavillion. She was right -- it was full of neat freebies and interesting, affordable designers, including Hushaby Baby, the designer of this deconstructed dress here. It's a little more risque than I usually wear, but I got inspired tonight by Inara from Firefly.
A friend came to visit, and I spent a fascinating hour listening to Joss Whedon's director commentary to one of the Firefly episodes. The man is a nutcase! While the camera lovingly panned around Inara's bosoms, he went off on an extended discussion of existential philosophy, the myth of Sisyphus, Camus and Sartre.
That's what I love about Joss Whedon. He'll show you a scene, but it isn't simply two people talking. It's a grammar of symbolism translated from his brain to the screen via images. That planet isn't simply a planet, it's a representation of a bit of existential philosophy...the unbearable weight of something's existence outside of yourself. This deep stuff ebbs and flows through his blocking and editing and imagery and words, and even if it isn't plainly evident on the screen, I think we can pick up on it enough to understand that something is going on.
When you look around Second Life, the landscapes with mythology and thought and a background story are the ones that speak, right? Right.
My dress is brown in honor of browncoats; and that is as far as my brain will stretch tonight.
